Folks the man has a pretty good thing goin' on over there and he's for real...and so are the "strongest unknown songwriters on the net"....I've been hangin' around over there for a little while and have learned a great deal...check it out if you get a chance

I checked the site out.
Well, only the lyric forum.
The lyric forum is really active.
Lots of posted lyrics to study and give advice, question and what ever.
Lots of advice posted also. All I saw was positive and helpful posts.
I'm impressed.
I've added this bbs to my board folder in my favorites.
I'll try posting the same songs I posted here, just for my own curiostity.

I felt the twenty or so minutes I spent there was well worth the visit. I saw some very good stuff being posted.
On the other hand, there is some really good stuff here to.

I usually don't visit sites that come to simular sites like this thread started as. If the person posts a simple link, I go check them out on my own accord. I need no prompting.
That's all I'm gonna say about this.

badgas, I appologize if posting this thread seemed at all unprofessional, but there were 3 reasons why I decided to do it...

1) Because for the most part, this board seems to be geared towards "Home Recording" as opposed to "Commercial Songwriting, and Critiques" which keeps us from being in competition with one another.

2) Because we don't yet have search engine support (although we have recently applied for it)

3) Because we are starting to arouse the curiosity of some famous Nashville writers and publishers. For that reason alone, I want to get you folks in there to be noticed, and to get your songs critiqued and heard. We even have Scott Mateer (Grammy nominee for "Dear Me" Lorrie Morgan) helping us out, by answering Music Industry questions on the board.

Al
PS> make sure you use the same screen name badgas, if you become a Tunesmith member, so I can remember to check out some of your songs! :)

PSS> Be sure to listen to some of our unknown "spotlight" songwriting members too. They can be heard at www.mp3.com/indie_nation

FYI,

We are installing a songwriters chat room on the Tunesmith site today, as another way for all of you to Network. Also, grammy award nominated songwriter Scott Mateer has a guest column called "Questions About The Music Business With Scott Mateer" that he is currently hosting, to answer your music industry questions.

Tunesmith's accompanying website is almost finished. We will be accepting submissions for the featured writers spotlight soon!

Has anyone from this forum become a member of our new website? I'm just curious if this posting has drawn any new members, and if you like it?

Al,

I registered for Tunesmith and went through some of the posts. I did notice one big difference between your site and HomeRec is that some of the people there don't know how to take constructive criticism. (Especially that Natalie Brown chick.)

I listened to her song and it was a pretty generic piece. Some of the people gave some VERY GOOD comments. Instead of taking them in and using it to learn, she seemed to get defensive. I also noticed this about some of the other people.

This is an exception on this board. The people here receive criticism very well. Of course we have egos, but most all the folks here check them at the door. I can't say that I saw that over there.

On the other hand, you have some people on board who have some very good tastes, so their comments are valuable.

I guess what I am seeing is that the potential for this to become a "he bashed me so I'll bash him later" site looks high at the moment. Until you get some strong members who gain the respect of the rest of the group and act as a stabilizing factor, this potential will remain high and could cause problem.

If what you are trying to establish is a forum for people to help each other grow and not an ego stroking club, then that would be a very valuable tool.

These are my opinions from a first look. I registered under the same name as here and will be back to check things out. May even post some of my stuff.

Regards...

Hehehehe... I think that Natalie Person just joined about 3 days ago, but here's the thing...

You said you "May even post some of YOUR stuff." LOL PLEASE be sure to grace us with it, so I can tear it apart and find out if what you said about checking your ego at the door was true. You people don't check your ego's any better over here than we do over there...

It's just that you don't have any critics who are 'strong enough' as writers to hit you where it hurts.

Your ego's have never BEEN TESTED. Bring over a song of YOURS, and I'll TEST it for ya.

Al

Hello Al,I think your comment about the "strength" of your writers over there is ...Well a little strong ...Think about it..There are talented writers all over the web..The difference here is more of a workshop approch , apposed to a critque approch..Form on the sites like yours is more trad. and here its more experimental..So in closing I'd like say there is a place for both..Also our music can beatup yours over there..LOL..Cheers!

Don

MY Songs, and those of my co-writers and friends are posted here... www.mp3.com/indie_nation

If you have any stuff like this, I'd SURE like to see it Don.

Secondly, I never said ANYTHING about the strength of OUR writer members. What I said was...

It's just that you don't have any critics who are 'strong enough' as writers to hit you where it hurts.

Your ego's have never BEEN TESTED. Bring over a song of YOURS, and I'll TEST it for ya.

I felt after hearing Sonic's comments in his first post, this was a straitforward, and honest answer. And the funny thing about the answer is this... it PROVED my point. One NEGATIVE comment about ANYTHING having to do with your group, and you're ALREADY posting flames...

And we haven't even gotten to looking at your SONGS yet.

Al
PS> Please try and remember that this is what I said to start this whole thing... "Has anyone from this forum become a member of our new website? I'm just curious if this posting has drawn any new members, and if you like it?"

And next thing you know, I'm put in a situation where I need to pick up a sword and shield.

Al Al ...Dont get testy..Al, my ego has been checked ....Simple responce...and I though nicely also!I'll tell you what, I'm gonna post a song on your site and if it sucks you win, may not be your style so keep a open mind...Hows that?

Don

Al, also no flames,at least that was not my intent!Chill man..

Don

This is hilarious. I have to admit that I haven't checked out Al's site, though I plan to when I have a bit more time. But being a tracker I notice patterns fairly easily.

The people who are posting about the character of the criticism for both sites, as well as whether or not people get defensive about that criticism- are all proving their own points with the quality of their posts!

:p

Homerecc'ers being loose and workshopy and Al being serious and critical.

:p

I'm having a nice chuckle over this thread....

Chris

Chris...He has a good site! They just have different approches... I'm gonna post a song over there..Then hes gonna say ,you suck..then I'm gonna say ,you bastard...:) Man its all good!

Don

Al,

It appears from your posts to my response that I hit a nerve. Sorry about appearing to flame you, but you did ask...

Also, I meant to put a smilie after the part about "Maybe even post some of my stuff." Especially since I don't consider myself much of a songwriter. I'm more interested in being an audio engineer and somtime musician. The songs I write are not of the quality that I would like, therefore I always appreciate feedback from someone who knows what they are doing.

As far as having my ego tested...I've been bashed by so many people over the years that one more won't hurt. (Shoot, I've been married for 30 years, how much ego could I have left???)

You seem to have missed the line in my previous post where I said;
"On the other hand, you have some people on board who have some very good tastes, so their comments are valuable."

I was sincere about that. There are people there who are being constructive, with some very good suggestions. I would love to see a couple of them, including you, show up on this board to provide some feedback.

No offense was meant, I was only letting you know my feelings and since you are trying to get TuneSmith off the ground, I thought that you might like a first impression. Obviously, if I felt this way there is a chance that others would have the same impression.

All the Best:)

yeah I'm droppin my 2 cents in here cuz I can, I registered on that site cuz of this post and all I see is a bunch of country and pop singers................................Throw the hip hop R&B genre and sum good rock over there n' get some people in there to respond to posts n' I'll come back, but 4 now I'm gonna keep it real wit HR
