Wicked Machine
Incredible price increases on some amps.

The DSL401 has gone up $200!!

The list on this amp is now $1,300. That's a fucking joke unless the cost of tubes has just gone up 1,000 % or something. Anyone know why Marshall is jacking prices up like this?

I heard a while back (6-9 months ago) that it was due to the weakening of the US dollar in overseas markets.

They are sepreating their lines. They (Korg) are building new Marshall and Vox amps in China now that they are going to set as the middle of their line instead of the bottom of it. By result, the UK made versions will go to a higher price bracket so that the Chinese counterparts become the staple in the line.

You do know that Korg owns both of them, don't you? That should tell you everything right there.

I think I remember seeing that at Harmony Central....forgot.

That does explain a lot!

Another thing to consider is "price and demand" with all the media hype it seems like everyone wants a Marshall. Also who do you think is paying for all that advertising?

Yeah, I'd say it's the name. I don't see why people like Marshall anyway... It doesn't matter what guitar you put through them... They make them all sound the same in the end.

Man, that's the second time they jacked up the price. I've never been a huge fan of marshall, but that's it... No more marshall.

Side Note

Why would you want to spend more money on something that's going to stop working before you get it paid for?

Every time I have a customer ask if I repair amps my reply is "Oh.......you own a Marshall?"
And the scary part of this story is that more half will reply with "How did you know?"

I've had guys bring new Marshall amps in the studio to record and I've been know to make a smart a** comment like
"do you have a good repair guy lined up yet?"

I've had three of those same guys call me within a year and ask "How did you know it was gonna crap out?"

Sorry Jim but when you started putting Mitsubishi car parts in your amps that should've been when you got out.

There are several repair tech’s that won’t even touch a Marshall any more.

I'll take a JMP or JCM800 1959 or 2203 with a 412 before a new DSL401. Vintagey Marshall or small modern Marshall, you decide. That is crazy.

the strange thing is...........

THe sad thing is that the DSL401 (which I own) requires some modifcations to get make it more relaible and get it to sound right. So you can add another $200 on top pf the base price - unless marshall finally decided to build them correctly!!

by the way - I got mine for $500 used of off ebay, with a fan mod and new tubes - maybe some other might luck out as I did

Well thanks to GWB the dollar is now worth much less abroad.

2 dollars to pound now my friend !!

Great for people buying American kit but not for Americans wanting to buy imports !

Just remember guys, the declining $ on used gear is balancing the increase in new retail prices. Buy used and screw the manufacturers!

It blows me away because I don't think Marshall amps sound all that good anymore. The guitarist in my old band had a JCM2000 and I thought it sounded like crap.

For the same money, there's lots of cool amps you could get that would sound better than a Marshall.

One of my favorite sounds is channel 2 on the Jcm2000 TSL100 through a JCM800 1960 cabinet with red tolex. I use that in practice alot, and a few times live, and it's just an awesome classic rock sound. It all depends on what you want.

Marshall, like Fender and other company's now offer 5 year warantees. What people need to realize is that all you're getting is a guaranteed piece of shit! These new amps constantly are in need of repair. Let me tell you, there's nothing more irritating then having your new amp fuck up and start making noise durring a performance. These new amps are over priced pieces of shit. But if people keep paying these high prices, then these manufacturers will keep on taking your money and producing garbage. It's kind of like Gibson guitars. Gibson still makes decent guitars but, come on, $2000 for a Les Paul standard is obsurd. These guitars are mass produced anyway and probably only cost $300 to produce in the first place. But if people keep paying the price, they'll keep taking your money to the fucking bank. Fuck 'em all, buy used! Besides, the older amps and guitars are better made anyway.

Yes, but aside from the good points we really need to concentrate on the negative issues.

These new amps constantly are in need of repair.

Every car needs an oil change and tune up just the same. Repair is a commonly misused term for routine maintenance.

Yeah sure.. blame the amp. Doug Marks can help you with that problem.

These new amps are over priced pieces of shit.

Again, Pro's aside.. we need to stick to the con's of Marshall.

But if people keep paying these high prices, then these manufacturers will keep on taking your money and producing garbage.

Isn't Garbage a name of some band? I see a connection somewhere...

How dare you dump on the fame of Jimmy Page, Slash, Jeff Beck and other greats! You wanna play a legendary guitar you gotta pay a legendary price! I have a right mind to call Gibson and convince them to increase the price another $100.

But if people keep paying the price, they'll keep taking your money to the fucking bank.

Most of the money gets there but don't forget about the various $100 bills they use to light cigars with. (Not to mention the custom-shop toilet paper in the restrooms made with real $100 bills)

Fuck 'em all, buy used! Besides, the older amps and guitars are better made anyway.

There are still people out there who design and build guitars made from historical wood and quality components. You just need to find out who and where they are. In the meantime.. make sure you DON'T get ripped off buying that used vintage gear. Lot's of scammers out there.

Dude! That's HISTERICAL!!!

My crate may be a piece of shit. Atleast its a cheap piece of shit, and thats still better than an expensive piece of shit.

Maintenance and repairs are different. I have no problem with mainenance (tube replacement, biasing, cleaning) it's the bullshit repairs and unreliabillity that I have a problem with.

Blame the amp? Yes I am! I use NO pedals and have brand new high quality cables and guitars.

Who is dumping on the artists? I was talking about the overprice guitars dickless!

I agree. Like I said, they can still make millions of dollars by dropping the price three or four hundred dollars...they'd probably make more because less people would buy used!
