I was finally going to get a pair of mc012 and now I have to search all over town. Fuck that.

They have them. They buy almost every single mic Oktava makes. Ask them to call another store. If they won't, then you call other Guitar Center stores.

I went to the store and they didn't have a single Oktava mic. Musicians friend doesn't even have Oktava on their list of manufacturers in the mic section anymore.

the distribution center in KC still has some...you have to come here to get them

They are only sold at Guitar Center stores. I suspect that some of the other Oktava mics coming up from other sources (other than the Sound Room) actually come from Guitar Center on their two for $99 sales.

I suspect you are right, Steve.

Guitar Center guys a jillion of these mics. These are the most popular budget mics on the planet. They price them to get you into the store to buy something else more expensive. I'd be shocked if they dropped Oktava. I've heard this rumor several times. Everytime, I've asked Guitar Center I've been told it's false. The mics are so popular that the do run out of stock at times.

I have a good idea of what sells as I get to see my internal stats. This is the most popular page at Mojo Pie: http://www.mojopie.com/mk319.html

It's about the Oktava MK319. It gets 80 percent more traffic than the next closest page.

GC does sell Oktava, but Musician's Friend doesn't. Between the QC issues, and people ordering bizzillions of them and returning them because they were trying to match up a pair, MF got tired of handling the returns. If your GC doesn't have Oktavas, they have them in the pipeline, or can pull them in from another store.-Richie

from what i was told Gc is dropping oktava mics
Just got off the phone with my friend at GC who laughed out loud when I ask him about this. He said that the reason stock was down was because GCs everywhere got wiped out at Christmas. He also said that GC had so many mics on backorder that it was going to take the Oktava plant nearly a year to fill them. Doesn't sound like we have to worry about them going away anytime soon.
