How many people here would buy a cardioid Shure Beta 87 for $190 for use on recording vocals in a live application? I know they sound great through a PA but good on tape (digital) too?
If what you need is a stage mic. and somthing to do some recording on with using the same mic, it would probably work out ok for somthing like a rapper.
If your main interest is in making a quality recording your money will be beter spent on a cheap Large Diaphram Mic (marshall at 90 bucks) and a seprate mic for stage like an (Audix m5) at $90

I've recorded many vocals through a Beta 87. They are not my top choice for stage vocal mic, but they are probably among the top five. They record very nicely. Other mics to consider for the same purpose: Neumann KMS105, Audio Technica 4054 or 4055, Audio Technica AE5400, Sennheiser HD431, AKG C535, Shure Beta 58.
