Would someone compress this vocal for me?

I was just recording my band's cover of Magic Carpet Ride for the second time. I'm a little frustrated. I'm left with no clean guitar because my guitarist sucks at the clean part so now all I have left is this distortion guitar for it. But, ANYWAY, the vocals seem a tad off, but I need someone to compress them for me! Stupidly I let her hold the mic, I forgot about a stand so it's louder in some bits.

I saved it in MP3 only so the file wouldn't be gigantic. You might want to save and open in your wave editor 'cause there is no vocals in parts when there is supposed to be no singing (duh, I guess) So could somebody like compress it and put it back w/ what settings you used...or just what settings you used. 'Cause I really blow with working with compression. I'd REALLY appreciate it, thanks.

Dude, I'll have a crack at it for ya, but it doesn't matter what settings I give you, they will be different for different compressors.
There is a systematic way of setting up a compressor properly, but it is a secret that is not easily handed out.
Although it would change your life, hehe.

with what software did you record? What plugins do you have? DIY, man:)

I recorded it on Cool Edit Pro 2.0 I figured they'd they change with every compressor. The track is pretty much dry. No verb or EQ or anything.

OK, done. Should I send it to your email?

I used the Blockfish VST plugin - I can't remember where that came from now, if I remember I'll let you know - It's a pretty simple compressor to use. I also edited a lot of it by hand before compressing it, which is always a good place to start if the vocal is all over the place.

Btw, you could have saved a lot more space by putting up a mono mp3 instead of stereo. What would have been better though would be to have made it mono and doubled the sample rate, because now that I have compressed this thing you can hear all the artifacts from the mp3 compression.

Oh yeah, good point, I guess mono would of been smaller. I did manage to compress this thing I dunno how well I did, but I'd like to hear what you guys of done. Problem with MP3 is it adds on like a snippet of time at the beginning and end so it'll be out of place, blah.

I've "mixed" the drums, rhythm guitar (with is really just a a guitar playing a simple distortion version of it), bass and those vocals. I might record this clean guitar track my guitarist always messes up. But when I'm done I'll reaallllyyy need advice on that thing, 'cause right now the guitar sounds a bit loud...but if it's quieter it doesn't sound right...you know stuff like that, advice on levels etc etc, I'd love that. (I even stuck a Monty Python clip in it before we speed it up..."and now for something completely different..."
