Tom Scholz sure is one of my heroes!

A class production techniques, best selling debut ever with original demo-material on that record, very good musician...

I don't see that 0.13 stringed finger-glued Texan wuss pull THAT off!

Toker41, you really crack me up dude!

I've never seen them live, but I hear they are really bad....

really, an ignorant statement.

go do your homework, and quit posting about things you really don't know about.

no, scratch that commandment!
;)

it makes for funny reading.

i saw Boston Live in 1977, for the first time.

They absolutely kicked ass. AS TIGHT AS THE ALBUM.

i was there, i know.

i saw them just a few years ago, at the Charlotte NC blockbuster pavillion.....

they had back up players for sure, but the band was incredibly tight, and really, really shame the lame attempt of a lot of current "big rock bands" to try to recreate their studio magic on stage.

rock on dude, just do your homework please. it's embarrassing.:D

A. Kiss my ass
B. I didn't say they were bad, I said I have always HEARD they were bad. I have heard this alot, but have never seen them.
C. Please learn how to read before you call me ignorant because it makes you the ignorant one.
D. This is not a thread about heros, it's about bad tone (which I think his tone was way ahead of it's time, I WAS a big fan)
E. I'll post about anything I damn well like.
F. FU, you have no idea what I know about.
G. Have a nice day.

I Love Angus' sound, but something got royally fucked up when they did the Fly on the Wall album.. That is just horrid...

The Edge> The Unforgettable Fire album was pretty aweful too.

I was waiting for U2 to make it here. Was gonna bring it up myself, but I figured I've pissed of enough people for one day.

...by the way Vox, love your stuff at Nowhere.

At first I was offended by some of the choices people were making.....

Then I realized that most of the posters were in diapers when these guitarists were in their primes.....

Any of you guys remember records?

I was just thinkin about guitar tone and how it sounded on records.....

For all of you Jimi bashers, I gotta believe you've never heard Axis:Bold as Love, or Experience.....or an original copy of Electric Ladyland.....cause theres just no bad noises on any of that...

A lot of the post death releases were crap....tapes that were pirated from hidden live recordings, jams Jimi would have never consented to releasing....

So if you die, be sure theres no shit recordings lying around .....

And as far as "what you know" Toker, what would that be?

Seems to me you dont like any guitar tone...are you some closet keyboarder or a lead singer just on here to irritate?

How about some one like Steve Lukather? Is that bad tone too?? Or how Eldon Shamblin? Did his tone suck too?

ahhh well...youth is wasted on the young

Cavedog...

Not that I have to explain myself to you, but if you were to take the time to read the whole thread you would know the reason for making this the "worst tone" thread instead of the "best tone" thread. A best tone thread would have turned into "greatest player" thread. I expected there to be an asswipe or 2 that would get all defensive when one of their hero's was bashed, and not see the point. As far as "what I know" I know you are one of those asswipes. It was stated that this would not be a thread to argue because someone bashed your guitar god. Because my opinion, and the opinion of others differ from yours does not mean we are "young", or don't know what we are talking about. If you would bother to read the whole thread you would see that I admit that some of my hero's have bad tone as well.

By the way...
I am mostly and first a guitar player. I also sing, play drums, keyboard, bass, and a few more.
Also, there are too many good tones to list, but in the metal field listen to the first FEAR OF GOD album "Within the Veil" Mike has one of the best guitar tones ever caught on tape. Now please go back to your cave and stop trying to turn this positive thread into a negative one. I'm sorry you don't get it, but don't piss down my back!!

P.S. jimi sucks on records, too.

Anyway a "worst tone" discussion is like a worst food or worst artist or whatever forum, its just interesting to see what a wide variety of opinions are out there and how taste varies so widely, kinda opens your mind a little to the concept that there is no absolute truth when it comes to music. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you Major Tom

this thread is hilarious!!!

Worse tone ever, let's see:

Jeff Beck in "Cause we ended as lovers" (terrible note choice as well)

Jim Matheos and Frank Aresti in the "Paralells" record

Dave Murray and Adrian Smith especially in the 7th son record

Andy Timmons has awful tone

Richie Kotzen's "Electric Joy" (sloppy playing as well)

and the absolute worse:

Steve Vai, especially in "for the love of god" or "touching tongues"

Carlos

Wow, didn't expect to see those names on here. One of my favs, but not one of their best albums.
Was really shocked to see EVH. His tone early on was ground breaking. However, Ted Templeton did that for him. His tone on 1984 was getting bad, and now I hope it's gotten as bad as it is going to get, because I can't take anymore "post Dave" EVH.

I've decided, thanks to your post, to go check them out next month when they come thru town. Like I said, I can't really say how they are live, but I have always HEARD (and heard it alot) that they don't sound good. However, I have never wanted to believe it. Time to find out for myself. Can't wait to see them.

dear toker.....
i did read the whole thread which is why i couldnt decide what you do like ...as for defensive you're the very defensive one...as for guitar gods i dont have any...they're all just players like you or me or anyone else....i didnt have any problem understanding the meaning of your thread...it was pretty simple really..as much as could be expected considering the source...and i wasnt flamng you, i just couldnt see in any of your posts a particular pattern which would lend a person to be able to identify with what kind of music you personally like....sorry if that offended you but thats the way it goes....really i dont care.....i mean for you to react to me earlier when i said what are you guys smoking like i was coming down on that....you need to get some kind of anger management goin.....peace bro....

...but if feeds my creativity...well, that and lust...hehe.
as for not being able to find a pattern in what kind of music I like, it's because this thread wasn't about types of music, but bad tone which can be found in all types. Again, you just didn't get it. However I expected some wouldn't. Most did.

ah...
"considering the source..."??? What is that suppose to mean?
And still you don't see where I needed to be defensive? You took offense to alot of names listed, and let it be known.
....but no hard feelings...all here for the same thing...

...time to move on.

Well, now that you mention it...
...it wasn't all that....

Kirk Hammet!!!!!!!

Man, his tone really sucks! No matter what gear he`s using.....

Joe Satriani. Boring as hell.

Creed/LimpBiscuit/System of a down

All LAME guitar tones. Nothing original in the bunch. They wouldn't know WTF to do with a 63 SG and a Champ amp.

The only thing that sucks harder about these bands is the musicianship.

Come on...
...Tell us how you really feel...
hehe.
