Snuck it in the house undetected :D. Now I just have to put the computer together. :D

Looks like I have a lot of reading to do

Now I am

That is all :D

I'm a cool kid now

Finally installed Sonar last night. Piddled around with it a little. I opened up an old PA9 project last night and got it to play back alright. It looks like I'll have to repatch (so to speak) effects in on anything I want to resurrect, but that's ok. I'll probably be starting anything all over from scratch anyway (one song in particular that I'm thinking of).

I can see that I may consider getting rid of the console view once I get used to the new track view. Looks pretty sweet. :D

I think I have some reading to do though. It took me a half hour last night to figure out how to see the mains in track view :( :D

You can never go back! Just you wait.... :p

What is nice is that the console view is available anytime using the view- console tab. I do find it helpful when mixing because individual tracks have an additive effect and can peak in the overall mix, as seen on the output meter. In Console view it is real easy to go back and adjust levels and monitor at the same time. Its easier than the track views method of having to open each track up for volume , pan and trim controls.

Your gonna love Sonar 2

Peace
Bill

Bill, I don't quite understand your comment. You do know you can view the Main meter(s) while in Track View, right?

At the bottom of the track view screen (where the 4 tabs are) you will see a little square icon with an up arrow in it. Click the up arrow and you get the Mains View, which gives you your output meters. You don't need to go to Console View.

But vertical meters are so much cooler than horizontal meters... :D

Of couse. What was I thinking??

:D :D :D

And if you have dual monitor setup, you can have horizontal meters on left and verticle meters on right. :) :)

Down side of that is that it chew's up extra CPU when viewing both.

BTW, Jagular, enjoy Sonar!!!

Yes, but I find it convenient and it also has a slider to adjust the level, which you dont have in track view, as far as I know. Also many times most tracks are minimized in track view if you've got a bunch of tracks. That means you have to open them up to view several at once and sometimes you run out of room to view the open tracks in track view. Either way is ok , but somehow console view seems convenient and conventional to me. :D

Peace

I'm tired of preaching. But FYI there is a slider for the VMain in Track View, just like there is in Console View.

But it too is horizontal, not vertical. :D :D

Thats what that button is for? lol.... I been reaching and grabbing the bottom window border and draggin it up to see the mains and aux. kinda like using an axe for a year and then finding out they sell handles for them. :)

I do not know where the Horiz slider is. So let me know so that I can say I now know.

I also dont know how your screen looks, but I have a lot more width for simultaneous viewing in console view to play with than I do height in track view. especially if I have to view mains horizontally as well.
But please tell me where the secret slider is anyway:D :D

I don't quite understand the problem with console view for many.
Makes me feel like I actually have hardware LOL :D
It IS nice that Cakewalk gave us 2 options isn't it.

Peace

But you know, some of these crazy people wants to remove the Console View alltogether... Now, that's insane! ;)

Your 'slider' in the track view is the same as it is in all your tracks. Just look for the 'volume' box, grab it and slide away!

One of the coolest things in Sonar is how you can mess with trim and volume, pan, fx sends, or whatever, and if you don't like it just double-click to instantly return to zero.

Key bindings are also a gift from above.

You're gonna love it, Jag. Once I decided that Sonar was the best for me, I haven't looked back! I used to have this horrible feeling that I was missing something by not using Cubase or Logic. I couldn't stand the thought of someone having a better recording app than me, when I had the best in my hands all along!! I'm actually getting a bit misty-eyed!!:( I better go now.

Hehe... we're not talking about that slider, but this one...

That's the slider at the bottom of the Track View, you see... ;)

Actually Guitar Ed had it right. Bill didn't seem to think there was a volume fader for the Mains in track view. I just wanted to point out that there is one (in the box labeled Vol).

Also, Bill, although your screen may be wider than taller, you can resize the track heights in Track View, but you can not resize your track width in Console View. :)

Oh yeah I forgot, I did say I was tired of preaching, didn't I?

That's funny, Toki.

Okay... now I'm confused and didn't understand any of that...

Sorry, Ed... :)

How about that!!:D There is a volume control under there:o

You see thats why I love this place. Even an old dog like me can learn new tricks here!

Thanks all
Bill

Ahhh, thank you! You hadn't found the VMains in the Track View... ahhh I'm not so stupid you thought I was! Ha! :D
