Hey Guys,
here's a remix of "When you call". With lots of thanks to Marcadiablo for his drum sounds and the drum-pattern in the verse (gracias hermano!:))
Hope it's less sucky now (sorry Rami...:D)

Would appreciate your comments.

Cheers

Sounds cool Joey. Vocals in the verse sound very emotional....in a good way. Guitars and bass all sit well together. Very nice.

My only nit is with the drums. The snare and and cymbals have this roomy sound to them, but the kick is punchy and relatively dry. It's especially noticeable in the intro. The kick is right up front and it sounds like the snare is 40 feet behind it. It's just not very natural sounding. You'll never hear something like that in real life. It's cool to have a slightly drier kick - if you want - but I feel there should be a little more room effect balance with what you have here. Should be an easy fix if you decide to try it. Overall though, another great mix and song. :)

Great advice Greg!
I'll see if I can give it some of the room the snare has. Thanx for listening!

Another great song from you Joey! :D

Great vocals and instruments! I love the harmonies in the chorus and the high notes in the bridge.

The bass sort of sounds a little louder to me than everything else, but it could just be my monitors?

The bass is a little too loud, Joe. But everything else sounds great as usual. I put this one in Windoze Media and did a cut at 125hz and it tamed it really nicely...

Are you going to leave me your vocal chords in your will?

I'll check that bass, it could be a little too loud. I kind of got carried away....:D

Hey Eddie!
I was gonna donate them to Miley Cyrus, but I think I'll change that now...:D

This one took me away, Joe. I liked everything about it. Man, you nailed this one. Effects, cool but not overdone. I think it's pretty much done, unless you wanted to boost the lead vox about 1/2 dB, but that's not really necessary. I'm going deaf. :D Not really, just kidding, but the vox could come up a bit.

Wig:)

I thought you were going for some kind of effect with the drums in the intro. It came across as intentionally unnatural. Hope that doesn't come across as a bad thing. :o It didn't sound bad, it sounded purposeful, especially with the guitar riff.

Agree with the comments about the bass. No other comments about the mix. Sounds like you really pour yourself into the song when you sing. It's a great delivery.

Lots of things going on and little details to listen to. Keeps the listener involved. Good build-up to the end.

thanks for sharing.
peace.

I can hear what Greg was talking about re the bass drum.
Nice bass tone by the way.
Your vocal delivery is spot on - usually is though.
Lots going on in the guitars to keep ears on task too.
Terrific work.

reminds me of an "old" Satriani tune (guitar tone).

then the vocals kick in, and it takes a different turn....and has an 'Alice in chains" sound.

this is a WELL written song. Im digin' it big time. Over all i think the drums could use a bit more "lift" and "pump" just to drive the song harder....

its a great ballad. it just needs something to lift it up there and make it sound "BIG".

Thanx Wig!
There's always that fine line with the vocal level isn't there? I find it difficult sometimes to determine whether it's too much or not enough, especially in quiet(er) songs. Normally I like the voice to sink in the mix, but anyway, this isn't the final mix, so I can fix that. Appreciate your comments!

Yes you're right about the drums having a certain effect. That's what hit me right away when Alex sent me the drum pattern and I really liked it, because i had a rimshot instead of the snare in the first version and it sucked big time...
Thanx for the nice comments, Dave!

And he's right too, upon listening to it again with some distance, it does sound a bit dry, but nothing I can't fix. I'm pretty happy with thebass tone too on trhis one. I got myself a Sansamp DI driver on Ebay yesterday which I should be getting this week, so I'm looking forward to improving my bass sound.
Appreciate your comments, Ray! :):):):)

I'm light years away in abililty to anything by Satriani, but that's a nice comparison....:) I really dig AIC too. Do you think I should compress the drums to make them pump more?
Really appreciate your comments because I respect your work a lot!
:):):):)

i dont know if it needs pumping compression, or just good ol' fashioned re-EQing. The kick and snare just needs to sound bigger/fuller....

Bass is too loud.

I'm not much into drum machines, but they are keeping a fairly steady beat.

Nice vocals. Overall this is a nice composition.

I'm guessing the singer is an AIC fan? He's got a nice voice.

Yep, I'll be fixing that bass, Supercreep.
Yes, I am an AIC and Audioslave fan........:D

Yeah, I can hear the Chris Cornell-ish descending note rolloffs in the low register stuff. Nice work.
