"I'll be ready when they try to take my gun"

that's a great line.. excellent guitar.. this tune deserves better drums.. do something about the drums.. get fruity loops with some decent samples or ACID or something.. those drums don't deserve to be on this tune..

it is a very good song.. maybe a bit long, but I liked it.

OH...FUCK YEAH!! Hey bro, I really tried to d/l this but i'm on dial-up...166kb/sec:rolleyes: , so's I got a pretty good stream of it and heard the whole thing. Couldn't tell about any issues but this tune freakin kicks big ass! Loved your playing, and that tone was really great to my ears. Fine tune Doug******

Thanks man, I've just finally orderred some sample cds. Some of the ones I have are good, and the authors were nice enough to post them on the internet for free, but I"m hoping that a matched set with things like velocity splits :0 will get me up a notch. I know it won't fix my lame sequencing skills, I'm still working on that.

Right on man, thanks! Glad you dug it.

Got an almost Hendrix sound on the guitar - I love that sound. What about the hum - do you want it in there to make it sound all dirty? Something like Cool Edit's noise reduction would get rid of it pretty well.

Two things about the guitar: if I was working on this mix, I'd be trying to get the sound a little fuller without adding loads of reverb to it. I don't know how I'd go about it - clone the track, pan, effect? Dunno. It's okay the way it is, but I'd want it better because it's the most spectacular element in the song. Second thing: your guitar playing's really good. But if you want it to have an even *more* powerful effect, play less during the verses - save the athletic stuff for in between verses. If it was me, I'd play about 25% of what you're playing during the verses (probably about 25% as well, too LOL).

Nice tune. Defend that witch.

Cool sound and feel. Love the old school guitar sound. I think it needs a rhythm guitar, something to move you through the song a littler better. Right now there is a little too much competition between the guitar and vocal IMO because of the complexity. Also the drums need some verb. They seem a little dry.

Very cool sound though and the guitar playing was very nice!

lol, it came with the amp and the wiring in the room :) I haven't got to that level of mix-fu yet. It is distracting right off the top tho isn't it, hmmm...

I think, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the sound was a little crisp, I'm still auditioning mic placement with a new pre and have hi hopes for at least a lightly fuller sound. I've got some other stuff to try out as well that was mentioned here.

Thanks for checking it out.

Ya, the guitar steps all over the vox at least a few times.
Thanks alot man.

V2:

Things are sitting better... the drum machine even sounds like it's coming from the same room... but that's just it, isn't it? Drum machine :) Damn difficult to get a great drum sounds w/out real drums...

Bass sits on the right a little bit? Interesting...

This time thru I'm hearing a bit of "The Cult"...

damn... sweet licks... again... yeah... Hendrix is right.

"It is distracting right off the top tho isn't it, hmmm..."

It's not distracting so much as noticeable, but I'm not sure that isn't a good thing - I hear it and go "Ooooooh, here comes some great big guitar!" I wondered whether you liked and wanted it there, is all.

Thanks for checking it out again. I thought the cult were pretty cool. I throught that love removal machine tune was brilliant.

"Bass sits on the right a little bit? Interesting... "
Ya, I say f@!k it, hang the bass out on the right.

I loved the track! You put real heart and soul into your performance and it really shows, big time!

Others have commented about various drum and bass sound anomalies so, I won't be repetitious about that.

Hendrix, SR Vaughn and you have one thing in common, your all great guitar players! Make sure you live long enough to enjoy the spot light that those dead dudes had and keep rockin'!

Great tune, man. Loved it!

Cheers! :)

Listening to it now

Wow, cool guitar--very Hendrix sounding. Great gritty vocals. Too bad you couldn't come up with a B3 in the background!

Vocals may be just a bit dry and they could come just a little in the mix(not much!!!!!!). Around 2:50 the sound level drops significantly. I think some rhythm guitar would help. When the guitar goes to lead, the sonic impact drops.

Great tune!

Not really, heh. It just slipped by. My usual methods would be to surgically fade the wave to get the right sort of punch in effect.

Thanks man!
Really glad you liked it. I wish there was a Shou Lin temple somewhere that taught drum sequencing lol

sloop
I thought about adding big reverb trails for the break in the middle to fill it in a bit but decided against it. I know what you mean, I find if you can make the transition work ok it's half the battle.
Thanks for listening!

Hey Doug,
....listening on puter speakers...

When the tune first started i expected the drums to fill up and slam the song into "go". After another listen, Im glad you did it the way you did. ...unexpected, and the sparce-ness added to that hendrixy feel others mentioned. I like the bass tone you got, I would just like to hear more "playing".... .....there's plenty of room here for a little wanking on the bass without stepping on the lead or vocs. I like the way you recorded the vocs. I like their verb setting (matches the dirty guits nicely).
cool tunage bro!!!

Hey Guernica, sorry it took me so long to reply.

I pencil in all the bass and drums so by the time it's close enough to call a tune I've usually had it, heh. A wide open mix like this wants more bass embelishment, I totally agree. I'll be working on that.

Thanks for the listen :)

How bout a nice Hammond B-12 to offset the dead space? Great jam.

Rick

Hopefuilly I can beef up the rythym somewhat. It'd be pretty cool to have a Hammond lying around tho. :)

Thanks for checking it out.

I love that kind of intensity and emotional raw sound. Lots of authority man.... Maybe an b3 or a rhodes playing real simple, or even a rythymn guitar chink on 3 would give you some balance. Nice...

Thanks Toki, 'preciate the listen.
The guitar "chink" has crossed my mind a couple of times.
