wiring insert jacks with a TRS cable

im using the "1st click method" with my boards inserts and i ran out of patchcables. i have a snake cable with 8 trs cables in it. could i use this to go from my board to my converters

I think so. It might short the ring to ground, but I'm not sure. I always used unbalanced, so I never had to worry about it.

How long is your snake? (Alright, I think that came out the wrong way)
I'm not 100% certain, but I think I recall hearing that this method isn't a great idea with chords greater than 10'-15'. I'm certain that someone more knowledgable than I will verify/rectify this statement.
I do the same thing with the pres on my board but try to keep all the connections no longer than 6'.

I recently recorded to ADAT using balanced cables (1/4" TRS) fully inserted into the board's inserts. It worked well. I'd guess the ECLO cable I used is about 8' long.
