Wire For Audio Cables

I think I am going to attempt to make my own TS and TRS Patch and Insert cables.

Does anyone know what type, and where I can buy the wire at in bulk (500ft or 1000ft spools, and at the best price of course ) plus where I can buy decent connectors at a good price?? (I dont need top of the line, but I dont want junk either)

What size wire is best to use for these type cables (18ga, 20ga, 22ga ??)?? And stranded I would guess is the way to go,,,,right?

OR,,,,,

is it just cheaper to buy cables rather then invest and make them yourself?

I know many of you out there have had to try or do this before, so your input would be greatly appreciated.

once you get the soldering iron and clamps and some cable, you'll never want to pay for cables again.

I have a little spot in my studio where i solder up cables as needed. For instance, two days ago right before nate and I started a session, i realized i needed a stereo to dual mono splitter cable for the cue send. DIdn't have one except in a 4 channel insert snakes. Well i'll be god damned if i'm going to waste and entire snake on one cue send, so i made one up. Works great. And it cuts down on trips to GuitarMart.
