24 bit...

I have an egosys wamirack24 and have been having some software issues. While on the egosys site, I thought I read that the wdm drivers would not support 24 bit under XP. I emailed their tech support and they confirmed exactly that, implying it was a Microsoft issue.

Does this mean XP will not support 24 bit for all cards under the wdm drivers?

It seems all of the info, on anyone's website, is purposefully vague...almost deceptive

I'm going back to tape.....

Just so nobody thinks I'm talking nutty, here is the email reply from Egosys Tech support:

"Windows XP is currently NOT able to playback 24-bit files. Microsoft is
working on a fix for this but we have no estimate for when they will
release it.

ESI Tech Support"

Does this make sense? Am I missing something?

thanks for the info on EZCD. I agree with the "far fetched" statement...but I shit you not...they are saying XP will record, but won't playback 24 bit...yet. Same goes for WIN2000.

I would't be the least bit surprised if it was true, I think with all the misleading vague advertisements out there, you practically have to have someone swearing on a stack of bibles to get useful info.

...actually

rwhite, I'm surprised you are the only one who responded to this. Not sure how to read this..

Yadi - The EZCD people advise you to uninstall EZCD creator 5 before upgrading, then re-install it after upgrading. There is also a XP compatibility patch you need to apply.

I reformatted and did the dual boot thing...98SE, XP Home

Got a cheap modem to work and everything seems to be running well under XP....except the Easy Creator Platinum 5.0. I took your advice, went to ROXIO's site and downloade the patch. I tried this a few time: reinstalled the Easy Creator. Rebooted and got some error message when I tried launching (didn't recognize the drive maybe?). Blew it off and tried launching the update. The update installation gives me a message that it cannot find the Easy Creator and cannot update....yet Creator is being seen by XP. WTF?

BTW, I at least have a basic EZ creator under 98SE running. At least I can do some burning there.

I've gotten other good burning software - nero and disc juggler - to work fine on xp with no path or anything.

Format C: in XP

I have poster a seperate threat asking the same question but just incase i dont gent an answer there.
I need to remove XP so i can partition my C drive to allow me to run a dual boot but nothing ive tried will let me format the hard drive that xP is on. Any suggestions?

Try Partition Magic. Otherwise, boot into dos, and run fdisk. with PMagic, you can supposedly partition your drive without re-formatting - and no data will be lost. If you use FDisk, you will have to re-install XP - in the process XP will format the partition you put it on. Then once in XP, you can easily format the other partition.

While I have not used Partition Magic under XP, it does indeed allow you to create and move partitions non-destructively. I've used it quite a bit with Win 98, its a fine program.

As for EZCD, I know that under Win 2000 it is recomended to install it, then DO NOT reboot when it tells you to, instead install ALL patches and updates BEFORE you reboot. Otherwise..... it can be bad.

Remember Ghostbusters? -

"I'm not really clear on this whole good / bad thing"
"Imagine every molecule in your body flying apart at the speed of light"
"And that's bad?"

I've been using XP for about 2 years now with absolutely no issues. I've always used a Presonus Firebox as my interfarce and Tracktion software. For the most part I would say that most host programs would run just fine on XP without a hitch, I think most problems occur when incompatible plugins are used, in which case there will be alot of crashes etc. But that doesn't really have anything to do with XP per se.

I think I might have said this a few times. Windows XP is a great OS and is very stable. Any crashes or problems are usually user-error, and caused by incompatible hardware/software configurations.

I don't see any need to upgrade from XP (especially for Vista, yuck).

Before XP Pro, I had Windows 98SE, and while it performed great most of the time it would crash unexpectedly at the worst times. XP has been very solid for me and I will use it as long as I can.

XP on my EMU1820/Kristal /pos pc and its been great.

I don't like the verification bs and other things about Microsoft....but XP Home Edition has been no issues on my system.

I have no opinion except my standard reaction for every new Microsoft OS, which is to let the early adopters go through the bugs and wait for the first service patch to come out.

hehehehe...wow...what a time warp.

i hate vista and i hate how you cant buy anything with xp anymore. and i hate how i cant afford a real audio pc. i pretty much hate life.
