I heard comments about windows 2000 not supporting ANY
recording software. Is this true? I wanted to upgrade to win 2000 for it's stability but am wondering if i can.

I use N-track presently. thanks-a-lot!

From what I gather at fasoft.com, N-Track does run on Windows 2000. Cubase does with some tweaking. Nuendo does out of the box. Not sure about Cakewalk, probably not. Vegas, probably so.

Check to see that your soundcard and other hardware is supported by Windows 2000 as well.

Windows Me I would stay clear of, my experiences with it have not been good. Other people on the BBS use it though with no problems. Win98 is a more solid product IMO.

Windows 2000 is ok, requires tweaking and the stability gains are not all that dramatic.

thanks emeric, lately n-track has been stable on my ME.
I reboot ME a lot at times in all my applications and wanna
get away from that--thus win2k.

Also JW, consider that with widows 2000, you will loose DOS from what I have heard. Prolly best to stay with 98. Good luck in whatever decision you decide to make!!

I use Win2k. Yes, you have to watch that your HARDWARE will work with it. But I have had no problems with software. This is what I have run on 2000 thus far: N-Track, Cool Edit Pro, Cool Edit 2000, Vegas Pro, Wavelab, Cubase VST/32, Logic Audio Platinum, Cakewalk PA9. There are only 2 things I have found that won't work, being the Pro Tools free thingey and Gigasampler.

Emeric, I've got to get ahold of Nuendo and try it out...is there a demo?

thanks hard2hear, sounds good. i'll probably need a different sound card. i presently use a creative awe64.
i hear turtle beach cards are good.(without going over budget)

also,i just d-loaded the protools freebie(i finally got in)
i'll try it on my ME for now.

I may just have to do the dual boot thing with w2k/ME.

Oh yeah, ME is crap, 98 is bearable, but if you can, run with 2000

the geek channel(techtv) said in about a year, that there will be a new win9x(????) whatever they'll call it.buttttt,it's supposed to run off the win2000 kernel.it's supposed(we'll see)to be getting close to the perfect combination of win98/2000.it's supposed to work better.
do u suppose?

Hasn't that been said about every single MS release since the beginning of time?

Mmmm...2000

/O

hmmmmmmm---yup!

Except for the kernel thing.first time on that!

Nah, keep in mind that "W2000 is built on NT Technology". Anyone remember what NT stands for?:)

Anyway, I still think that W2000 (Mmmm) is the only good thing MS has ever released. I've never had it crash or misbehave unless I have poked around too much where I shouldn't. Hardware compatibility is the only thing that I ever had to worry about.

yea i'm convinced on w2k!i'm just waiting for the price to come down."BestBuy"(like circuit city) had win2k pro for $189.00. does that sound right? i thought i saw it on the net for $257.00 somewhere.

I have no clue on what W2000 costs. I used to work for MS so I got it free. I'm pretty sure that best buy etc. gives you a fair hint on the price though.
