I have Cakewalk HS XL and an Edirol UA-5 card.
And Windows XP Home

The Edirol had a disc with the WDM driver for me to install, but the computer won't take WDM when I try to install it. This disc says the WDM driver is for Windows 2000 but on the box it says"compatible with Win XP!". I've done the installing and un-installing over a few times and it always comes up as MME. . When I use Cakewalk everything works fine, but I want the
%$#*&!! WDM driver ! Especially now since I'm going to begin recording in 24/44.1 instead of 16/44.1.

How do I see in my computer what the stock audio driver is? Did
I waste my time trying to install it.? If Win XP does indeed already have WDM, how do I stop it from defaulting to the other one (MME) and bring back or enable the WDM driver? I have unistalled the MME several times now. But have had to accept it in the meantime to run my !#$!#$ program.

I have tried the Rollback driver action and I get a box that only directs me to Troubleshooting, with no explanation.

So I basically gave up again, and figured the MME was fine. So when I went back in to Cakewalk to do more work, the input pull-down menu doesn't even show my Edirol card. I'll deal with that again later.

Enough ranting-

My Main POINT is:

Is this an Edirol issue or a Windows issue ? I know I'm not especially bright when it comes to computers but this at first seemed pretty logical . What I'm thinking is , is that I didn't need to mess with the driver installation in the first place right? Or are the drivers specific to each company's sound card...

I read through hundreds of threads on this site and could glean some info that would apply to me. One thing I read here, was some advice that said to put in the Win XP CD that came with the computer and re-install the WDM.

BUT , when I look in the Device manager I see an item in there that says C:\windows\system32\ wdmaudio ... (something like that) Does that means the WDM is in there? Have I messed it up somehow?

Like I said I'm not so bright with computers. Surely theres a logical solution to this. Is there any patient soul out there who can set me on the right track?

Thanks alot
