on my vs2400 it only has 8 inputs which i plan on using to record drums. however i'd like to give the drummer something to play to alongside a metronome. i was thinking of using a patch cord to go from my mixer (with the metronome) to an adaptor and then use a patch cord to go from the guitar amp's headphone jack to the adaptor. the adaptor would then go to a single 1/8 inch jack which would go to my headphones.

would this work?

You lost me on that one.

Why are using 8 mics on a drum kit if you are new to recording? Get a good sound with 4 mics then try the fancy stuff.

Record your guitar parts with the metronome before you record the drummer. Then the drummer will have a metronome and scratch guitar tracks to play along with. You can even throw in some rough vocals.

It might work, but I don't know if sending the powered output of your Amp's headphone jack into the Output of your vs2400 is a good idea.( which is also what would happen in addition to powering your headphones.)

If the Amp has a second input, I'd try that, or a separate Haedphone amp like the HA4600, which would let you patch in and balance the levels of two totally different signals.

I just recorded a drum track using six mics and a vs 1680, I pre mixed drums with a peavey mixer down to two tracks, L and R used up only two tracks on the 1680. We recorded the click track on to one, then the drums on 2 and 3, then later on after the drums were laid down, we recorded over the track one with a guitar part, We monitored right out of the 1680 with the metronome mixed with the bass into headphones.
