ADAT carries sync info as part of the signal, so no.

A stated, sync is embeded. In the digital world just remember, the Master always goes into the Slave.

Are you saying I should send the tascams optical out to the octanes optical out?

No. What I mean is when you're making a digital transfer, the sending unit is the clock master and the receiving device (the recorder) is Slaving to the incoming embedded clock. You may have to set up your system accordingly. When playing back it would be set to use its internal clock.
