I want to order cables but even after reading I'm still confused (english is not my first language).

I bought a presonus fireproject studio and want to hook up two things to it: A presonus HP4 headphone amp and my amplified m-audio studiophile Bx5a deluxe monitor. Both need 1/4 M conector...

Where I am confused is.. balanced or unbalanced? TRS??

I don't want to use the cheapest cable but I don't want to pay 100$ for mosnter cables! A good example for my HDTV and home theatre I use monoprice HDMI cable.

Hosa or Pro Co cables are a good choice for the money. As far as TS or TRS ends are concerned you might want to go to www.sweetwater.com or give them a call.

Ive been lucky...I won a roll of Mogami on auction.

I havent had any problems with the Hosa cables I used to use...but I dont like the ends being moulded plastic that much...if there is going to be trouble it would be there.

hosa cables arent bad but i prefer to use live wire as they seem more reliable due to their metal tip housings instead of plastic. their kinda like monster cables, i have never had one break on me and even if one did break their very easy to re-solder.

oh and i always go with balanced TRS every chance i get :D

I use any old cable. I don't even know what it is.

Poor quality cable can cause problems, but generally, quality problems elsewhere in the system overwhelm any arising from the characteristics of the cable.

I have to agree as long as the electrons are flowing a Monster cable isnt going to be much better than cable tech...but monster does do a better job of making sure the flow isnt interupted.

Id suggest making your own cables if you are good at soldering and can win some ebay wire and ends...you might get just as good results without spending a fortune.

I know the Monster cable is very expensive for audio. I checked Sweetwater for a 30 foot XLR cable and they want 80.00 but you can buy the Hosa or Pro Co brands for 25.00 to 35.00 The price difference is pretty huge.

The price difference is pretty huge.

Quite so! But the audio quality difference isn't. The construction may be better, and this is important when on the road and there is a lot of plugging, unplugging and other physical handling. If the cable is plugged in and left in, then you don't have much to worry about.

And if it does fail, it can fail four times before you lose money!
