Pico,

If your looking for a good all around mic, grab one of those Oktava 319's the next time your in GC. You can get them for about 80 bucks. I've got 4 of them that I use for various things. They're reported to have an inconsistent product, but i've never had a problem. Just test it out before you leave the store.

Well, here in San Antonio, we are in desperate need of a GC. We only have a crappy Herme's Music. They overprice on drums and some studio equipment. The closest GC one I think is in Austin. I'd rather not drive for an hour. ;o)

An hour?!?!

Dude, you are not allowed to complain about an hour drive to purchase equipment. I have to drive an hour just to get downtown to go to Rockin' Robins for equipment setups/repairs/etc... (One of the coolest stores in Houston. Corner of Shepard and Alabama off of I-59 if your ever in Houston.) Think about it. You leave the house at 9:00am. Get to the store at 10:00 when they open. Shop for an hour or two. Home by the time lunch rolls around with an arm load of equipment. Throw a buddy in the car and a CD full of mixes that you've been listening to and the hour's gone in a second. And how many times have you blown off a Saturday morning watching Ren and Stimpy? Or sleeping?

An hour?!?! Ah @#$$%@#!

Of course, I also put about 35,000 miles a year on my vehicles. So, driving don't bother me that bad.

Calm down cowboy. I understand that an hour isn't too long. Right now, gas price here in San Antonio is almost $2 a gallon. My budget is so damn tight. With rent, cell bill, groceries, etc... I try to use my car wisely. ;-) Yet, I plan on actually going to Austin for a show soon, so I will probably check it ou then. I want to save up at LEAST $500 so I can have some money to spend, at least on 2 mics or what ever catches my eye.

Ah, i'm just messing with ya. There's more stuff in life for me to get riled up about than that. Save your pennys, spend them wisely. Build your xanadoo.

Gas prices are approaching $2 a gallon here in NJ. My 93 ford crewcab has a 28 gallon side tank, and a 33 gallon rear tank. I have 280K on it. For what I spend in gasoline I should just buy Exxon-Mobile and be done with it.

*sigh*

And to think, I'm building a 600cid motor for it.

600cid motor!!!!
You towing a sailboat behind that thing or what?
:D

You think $2 is bad???
Well, in Denmark 1 liter (there 3.79 liters in a gallon) of gasoline is $1.43, which calculates to $5.42 per gallon!!!!!!
...just a different perspective.... :-)

Yeah. But how much of that goes to taxes to fund your ridiculas social programs?

Boat? Naaaah. Race car gooseneck with race car :)

Ford 600cid stroker, twin-turbo, GM fuel injection, 5000 rpm redline!

Most likely 90% or something like that. It's insane...

Yeah, spending money to provide healthcare for people.

What a ridiculous thing!

It's far better to spend money that you don't even have on alienating the rest of the world through hideous military misadventures.

I can't account for all of the above, but Full Compass has ALWAYS been cheaper than musicians friend (no friend of mine).

Gas here in Central Illinois is 2.15 a gallon, and it's almost 3.5 hours to Chicago where I believe the nearest GC is.

Full Compass is my friend.

And yes, how ridiculous that children and senior citizens should have adequate health care... geez.

This is way off topic, and probably belongs in the cave, but I can't help myself but to respond.

The population of Denmark is roughly 5.5 million people; compare that to 300 million in the U.S. It would be reasonable to assume that its easier to provde health care for 5.5 million people than it is to provide for 300 million people.

Our current health care system works well for 88% of the population; only 12% are without some substantial form of private health care.
Social Security, Medi-care, and medic-aid are all shining examples of dismal governmental failures, and are all based on taxes of one form or another.

14% of the nation's economy is rooted in the health care industry.
Given the track records of Social Security, Medi-care and medic-aid, I'm not willing to hand over control of 14% of the nation's economy to the government.

Furthermore; if you're sick or injured, and arrive at ANY public hospital in the U.S., you will be cared for regardless of your ability to pay. That's the law.

(We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.)

How unfortunate that I should personally know one of the 12% who have "fallen through the cracks".

I concede the point that Social Security, Medi-care, and medic-aid are insufficient.

If you are sick and arrive at the hospital you will receive "care", but not the same care that one with insurance receives. I've been on both sides of this one personally. Even small children are shooed off and many times released before an accurate diagnosis is made, let alone a treatment found.

I am thankful to be able to provide health/dental insurance for my family, but I have seen the misery of those who are unable to do so, VERY close up.

and I am through!

New revelation this weekend:

I built my own studio so that I could give myself yet another endless project that has little to no return and leaves me pulling my hair out on a constant basis. I wanted to bring ten pounds of misery to my life for the reward of ten ounces of satisfaction. I had the cahone's to stand up and say, "If he can do it, I can do it!" Even though he's been doing it for 25 years and has actual artists that can perhaps play and sing. My life was too simple and I had too much money in my pocket.

Hahahahahahahahaha!!! :D That is priceless.

What the hell is a GOBO?!
Finally, an easy one :D
Gobo's are thick panels to isolate instruments or vocalists, usually two or more, at least high enough to keep other sounds from the mic or mic's, and vice versa. There are all kinds of variations. Some are lined with rigid fiberglass for absorption and covered with fabric, some have that AND a reflective surface on the opposite side, some have slats over the fabric, with variable width slots between them(called a Slat Resonator which actually is a hemholtz resonator which actually is an absorber with a lower bandwidth) and MOST are on wheels for mobility, but some are on rollers on the ceiling, some are hinged to walls or together in 2 or more configurations, some have louvers for varying the absorption........some have plexiglass windows above for visual contact(usually for drummers)and absorption below....but MOST are homebuilt.
