I'll check out your tracks when I get home. I'm sure they sound better than any bass I've ever recorded. I don't doubt your equipment, skills, or knowledge, Ed. I would be curious to know the rest of the signal chain, though.

The original poster asked for negative experiences with behringer products. I posted my experiences with, and opinions of, the behringer gear that I own. Other than being noisier than most of my other inexpensive gear, I haven't really had any problems. I hear differences between the behri gear and other stuff that I own, but those differences would probably be unnoticed by most listeners. I certainly don't listen to music and think, "gee, they must have used a shitty behringer mixer/pre/di/etc on that track." You chose to attack my opinion of the DI, which is your perogative. I don't think I'm the one who needs meds.
Erm ... 16-bit 44.1 ADAT with Mackie CR1604 pres if I remember rightly .... :eek::eek::eek:

And so incidentally my question still stands ... has Ed got any tracks downloadable NOT recorded with cheap gear? We want to hear.

Ummm are you saying Ford Van is Ed!?

As long as I've known Ed he doesn't use Behringer mixers and the only Beh gear he used was a Composer Pro ( along with an Alesis 3630 & a Cranesong).

Yes. So did Ford, in that last long rambly thing he passed off as a post.

Well he's not a pro any more! ;)

He has a little UB802 (hence his previous screen name here ... uh ... UB802) which sits before his Hafler and 20/20s. :)

The look on Mr.NoIQ's face: Priceless. :D

That ADAT's were running at 48KHz btw! Mackie 32 channel 8 buss. The signals were running down a 250' Whirlwind snake before hitting the console too.

That's it scrubs. A bass plugged into a Behringer DI, running down 275' of mic wire, to an old Mackie 8 buss, to Blackface 16 bit ADAT's.

Nothing special. Also, not much "skill" involved in recording something like that! I didn't get to do sound checks or anything like that before the bands start to play. I threw the mics in front of everything, ran back to the console, got a few levels, then the show goes! I was mixing the live sound too at the same time! So, the levels on the ADAT's were pretty conservative because they had to be. I didn't have a lot of time to be messing with record levels. Plus, adjust record levels meant messing with the live sound levels, because the FOH console was getting it's feed from the output of the ADAT's.

You want to know what else really sucks for your take on Behringer gear scrubs? I had a Composer Pro insert on the Mackie for the bass DI channel because I couldn't afford to have the signal clip the A/D's! So, not only are you hearing a Behringer DI inline, but also a Behringer compressor inserted on a Mackie preamp going to 16 bit ADAT's.

Now, that has to be some of the most MARGINAL signal path you can create, yet, those bass tracks sound pretty damn good when you consider everything in the chain! It isn't the gear! The gear is quite capable of working just fine. Usually when it doesn't, it is user error. ;)

Mr.NoIQ will figure it out eventually. :D

18 years old! You MUST have some great experience eh! ;)

I really hate people like you. You always belive that older means more knowledge. I play music 6 hours a day everyday. I am slowly getting a bachelor of music degree I don't know about you but I am a professional musician and thats how i make my money.

I played in my first band, making money, when I was 16 dawg. I am 40 now. Whatever. To me, you are just a newb.

Its people like you who make the music business sick. I am respected by people like John Wyre as a musician. Look up his name and you will be surprised.

So? You have some talent. Go play.

I have been working in audio longer than you have been alive.

I find if you buy there lower end gear your screwed. High end stuff on the other hand works great, but if you are out to make money at doing live sound systems or what not just stay away from behringer.

I have seen MANY sound companies that are "making money" that have Behringer gear in their racks.

Kid, quit while you are still ahead. There is a whole REALITY about the music business that you have yet to experience!

Just because you have been working in audio longer doesn't mean who knows more. I have a diploma in sound technology, people your age who have been doing sound come to me for advice. Age doesn't always make the difference, when people your age learn that I will give respect to them, but I have put up with to many know it all old and young to take saucy unnessacary comments like you made earlier. Resect peoples opinions and don't act like you know more then the person if you don't know them.

I like when Ed posts links, cause it makes me feel good about the gear I have lol. Now if only behringer offered (pro) mixing skills at a 3rd of the price of everyone else. hmmmmmm.

Hey guy, you made the dipshit comments to begin with.

My YEARS OF EXPERIENCE in the business, actually working, touring around, using a LOT of different gear leads me to opinions based upon USAGE, not text books.

You ignore the fact that a MAJOR touring sound company had Behringer dynamics in their rack exclusively. This sort of blows your little thoughts about how cheap gear will screw you. Maybe it will, but, plenty of professionals who have been doing this crap longer than you have been alive are more than happy to take that screwing in light of the fact that:

1 - Behringer gear work pretty damn good, no matter WHAT price range we are talking.

2 - Offers a EXCELLENT price point for the quality it offers!

So, you can go purchase a bunch of $2000 compressors to throw in your live rack, and have it get messed up. Let's see, I need usually around 10 channels of compression and at least 4 channels of gates. ClassA gear, that is around $25,000. The Behringer stuff will run me about $1200.

Does your educated mind see a little difference there?

I never said nothing about your experience not being accurate, but it seems to me that your still saying I know nothing because I am younger thats the point I am trying to get to you. I respect you opinion on gear, but it was not nessacary to make a comment about my age when I gave my opinion. So maybe you should get your head out of your a** and start respecting younger musicians as well.

Now didn't I say a few weeks back for live Behringer stuff will get you by but for studio work where everything gets heard in very fine detail it just didn't cut the mustard?

Looks like you're making up new fights to feed your deflated ego around here. I like you, you make me laugh hard when I read your posts.

Have you ever actualy started a topic that someone might get some learning from or offered advice to someone having trouble with a piece of equipment or sortware or computer hardware? Or do you just like to bump on about how great Behringer are as a company and post up songs someone else mixed on totaly different gear from what you claim?

See I learned a long time ago how to shit a bullshitter and I love doing it. The difference between us is I couldn't care less what people think of my mixes, I don't go around constantly posting them up for aproval like yourself.

This thread was started to maybe help a few kids with pockets full of christmas money not throw it away on junk that they'll have to replace further down the line. I see you took great delight when you thought the thread wasn't turning out the way I expected....will looky here..... I don't see a huge swing in favour of the Behringer crap. Almost everyone who's posted and said it's useable still say it's noisy or it malfunctions in some way even though it's still useable, big deal...I pay money I expect equipment to work without fail on any level and if it does fail I want it repaired or replaced quickly at the company's expense, not mine.

Anything you want to add to that can only be more bullshit so why don't you run along and play with all the knobs on your UB802 :)

There's my clever little meat puppet

That's because most people who sing the praises of Behringer gear have NEVER tried anything else therefore have no way to perform comparisons with other equally priced gear.

ok, i have an amek console in my studio. i have a behringer 32 ch something or other that i used for a cd release show for a client of mine. used 12 channels of behringer compression. got TONS of compliments on the sound at the show. my only complaint is that i wish the mixer had another sweepable eq. (only had one). the mixer was clean, sounded good. dont know what it would be like in the studio though..

my wife bought one of those mini behringer mixers for me for christmas. plan to use it for monitoring for location recording... $70 for a 12 ch (really it is only 8) mixer, seems like a killer deal to me..

I said MOST people, not ALL people!

I own an Mackie 1202vlz, and Alesis 24 & 32 and a Topaz 24/8. My 1st board was the Beh MX2624 and the worst of the lot, the A-24 was helluva lot more cleaner & efficient than the Behringer.
