i'm trying to get a real good processor. i need help because i dont know TOO MUCH about processors but from what i heard, i heard that 3.6Ghz processors were real expensive but i found one for only $195. here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...50706985+105101317&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=343

the processor is called Intel Pentium 4 661 Cedar Mill 800MHz FSB LGA 775 EM64T Processor Model BX80552661

it should be at the bottom of the screen (the last one on the list)

so can somebody look at the description of the processor and tell me why it's so cheap and clue me in on what i should be lookin for in a processor (the good attributes).

but if yall think that that's a good deal for that 3.6ghz processor also let me know that too :D THANKS

This is a single core processor. You should be looking for a 64 bit dual core processor. I got a A8V Deluxe Asus motherboard with an AMD64 Athlonx2 a few months ago and couldn't be happier though it's probably old by now.

For what? He work for the NSA or something? :D

This is only audio, people. :)

Multi core is the only way to go when buying a computer now. The technology is moving along fast.

I would be happy with a 3.4-3.6ghz pentium D (or AMD X2 5000 dual core)& 2gb of ddr2 pc2800 & dual 7900GTX video & 1TB of space (SATAII/3gb) w/ a 21 inch flat & a motu I would never upgrade again (except the recording stuff)

I´m VERY HAPPY with my 2.26 Pentium and 768 ddr 400...
(But I use ONLY for audio, not GAMES, it seems that´s another story...)

I'm one of those speed freaks. I'm very impatient so I need my computer to be fast. I also trying to do video editing & I tend to have like 5 things running at once.

...or VIDEO, another story too, no? :) :) :)

that processor is single core and part of a dying (dead, really) chip architecture. it will be adequate for what you're doing now, but it will be pretty hot and you may run into issues with noise and cooling. I'd look for a lower clocked dual core chip in that price range. perhaps an AMD Athlon 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo (if you can find a motherboard that works with it)

I was REALLY happy with my old PIII with 128 Meg of RAM running '98. It worked great as a dedicated audio recorder.

I have the same chip. but I bought mine when it first came out for quite a bit more.
Intel recently lowered prices on the older processors to make room for the new stuff.
Mine performs like a champ, I have no complaints.
But if it were me, I would hang on for a couple months and get an Intel Dual core Conroe. Even the cheaper and slower Conroe's will beat out the 3.6g p4.
