Perhaps the term "work-in-progress" needs to be more clearly defined.

If someone has done the best they can and have run out of ideas to make their product better, shouldn't they be justified in posting for tips, suggestions, feedback, etc? Then they can take the tips, suggestions, feedback, etc and attempt to make their product better - and eventually turn it into a "finished" product.

Sure, they are justified...that's what makes places like this really great....providing they do their best. I think what Cyan and I are trying to say is the guy who says; "man, the guitar sucks on this MP3, and I am going to replace it....." that person should go ahead and replace the guitar FIRST, then post. Then they have done what they could on their own to their best ability, first.

When you are "stuck" on a mix, or even a production, or song writing, sometimes that "nudge" from new ideas can help, but get the out of tune guitars, and sucky vocals out of the way first....or don't admit the faults and let us discover them!! HA!

But, admittedly, I am fairly new to this forum too. I browse the other catagories alot, but need to spend more time here in addition. I'll be Alaska (like anyone really gives a F!!), so my absence for the next couple weeks won't help "breaking me in" here either. I must say, I got this CD from a guy over at AUDIO FORUMS...he wanted to give his CD's away...just for comments. This is the 2nd one I have received from players there, and the guy is a killer guitar player....another Satriani, Vai...you name it....just drop the drum machine, his crappy CD graphics.... and his stuff is TOP NOTCH....!! blow me down!! His Lexi gtr processor makes a believer out of me, recording direct is MORE than acceptable.....so...what was the subject??

I think everyone has been guilty of using defense mechanisms to guard themselves from critics. Such as, "I know this sucks, but I also know if I spent a few more hours on it, it would be brilliant". Of course, I know my vocals suck - but nothing short of some type of surgical procedure would resolve that one.

But ya know, singers like Mick Jagger, and even Bob Dylan suck pretty bad too (as singers)....imo....and Keith Richards aint no guitar wizard either. However, look at the pedistal these guys have been given to sit on. Most rock and roll singers really suck too anyway. ...it is just if you like the *style* or not.....or the song, I suppose. So...I either say; "replace it...or keep the trap shut so nobody knows what you are talking about." Is Axel Rose a good singer...?..James Hetfield....? think about it. They hit the right notes...but are they good singers? Ya see my point?
