Why does no one mention Red5?

I've seen a couple mentions of the Red5 mics here and there, but nothing substatial. Does anyone own one? They make a few different ones, even a SDC (for 99 pounds a pair!). Are they any good? I listened to the samples that the listening sessions have of the Red5 RV8 (LDC) and they sound pretty good. How come no one talks about them?

Peter, it seems mainly because they don't have very good distribution (none in the US as of yet) but it's coming?

We have all the Red5 Audio mics here and they're excellent. We've been using and testing them for almost two years. The only mic I don't feel is up to par so far is the RV4 small diaphragm. The RV8 cardioid-only, RV10 multi-pattern are especially good mics that work on a lot of sources. Vox, acoustic instruments, amps, drum OH's. Neutral, open, and airy.We put up about 15 mics on drum OH's and the only mic that beat out the RV8 was the 414 B-ULS. The RV8 took a solid 2nd place. The RVD1 large dynamic kick mic is killer. Their RVK7+ drum mic kit with the RV8's as OH's is an incredible package.

The RV8 could very well be poised to be the next killer budget "workhorse" mic.

Just starting to test the new RV6's.

Currently Red5 Audio sells direct at http://www.red5audio.com
They're getting US distribution in place.

Dot, how good are the tom/snare mics in the Red 5 drum mic sets? I thought I had found a real deal in these, as compared to buying mics in the US, but after adding shipping and doing the conversion, it unfortunately comes to a total of $690.50 for the tom/snare, kick, and RV10 package.

If I were to get something like Studio Projects C4s, any decent kick mic, and maybe the three pack of Sennheiser E604s, that would be nearly $800, which is sort of close in the price range. Which do you think would be a better bet?

Is it possible that, some day soon, these mics will be available in the US for atleast a little cheaper?

EDIT: Ok I dug up an 8 month old post on the HC forums where Craig Dunsmore said that they were opening up in the US "early next year." Anyone know how that is going? I guess that would atleast alleviate the freaking $120 shipping. :(

RED5 mics - real or science fiction?

I know, I know... this is an old thread...

but are the RED5 mics any easier to get in the U.S. yet? Is there a distributor yet? Does anyone want to sell me their RED5 kick drum mic?

I'll be able to test the RVD1 kick drum mic in the next week I think, unfortunately I'm in the UK so I can't help you about distribution, but I have high hopes for the mic.

Post it up, big guy. Any of your songs finished yet, or have you scrapped them all again? ;)

Great! I'll be watching for your comments.

Meanwhile, I found some threads recently over at studioforums, where I found that searching Rvd1 came up with several results. I think there are the opinions of a few others there if you'd like a read!
