Why does my BR-1200 CD Digital Recording Studio sound better than Pro-Tools?

PRO-TOOLS
I begin by plugging mics into my M-AUDIO Ultra. I use no mic-preamps, and direct in most instruments. But whenever I record live I usually spend alot of time positioning mics, setting up my gear to sound as good as it can before I actually record it. After setting up my microphones (2 x SM-57's, SM-58, Beta-52A, C03 Samson Condenser, 3 x PG-56'S) I record the band, one instrument at a time to ensure clarity. After cleaning up the recordings with EQ, compression and gating I use my only mid-grade decent plug-in I own; iZotope Ozone 4 Mastering Plugin. I slap on a pre-set and tweak a little. After I bounce to disc (48kHz) I receive a lifeless sterile recording with no stereo width.

I have invested close to 2000.00$ in Pro-Tools and expect something more.

BR-1200 CD DIGITAL RECORDING STUDIO
Whenever I record with my BR-1200 I spend little time positioning mics, spend no time making my gear sound very good and begin recording usually on short notice (I use this at life shows to record, and for band demos). I throw in one mic at a time recording each instrument seperatly to ensure coherent and clear results. After recording I add little or no effects to anything and master it using the few pre-sets on the module. After bouncing to disk I get a dynamic blast of equalized and phenomenally enhanced audio that to this day astounds me.

WHY DOES MY BR-1200 WORK BETTER THAN PRO-TOOLS!?

ANYONE!??

Short answer: Because it sounds better to you.

Longer answer, the recording chain in the BR-1200 delivers a more pleasing sound to you than the recording chain in the M-Audio Pro. Whether it's because of the difference in the built in preamps or A/D converters in the two boxes, or something else in the signal path, or the sum of them all, is impossible to say without some differential troubleshooting. But it's probably got nothing to do with the Pro Tools software itself, but rather with the difference between the M-Audio hardware and the Boss hardware, and the Boss hadware has a sound you prefer.

The only way to really tell is to record the SAME THING with each method - same mics, same location, etc.

I love the sound I get recording on a BR1600. I can't explain it either.
