NM - Land of Excrement
After playing my nylon-string acoustic-electric last night for about 30 minutes, I put it down and after about 10 minutes the D string (wound) just snapped right at the tie point on the bridge. This has happen to me occasionally over the years with all kinds of guitars. What causes this to happen? This set of string had about 10 hours of playing on them over a 2-month period. Any ideas?

just curious,

That spot that it snapped becomes a weak spot after aggressive playing or alot of bends prolly just like a steel string..

Nylon string / tied strings? Might have something to do with your tying technique. If you put a kink in the string as you tie it, that will become a weak spot and it could snap with time as it is under tension. If it snaps over a saddle, there may be a sharp break point.

Might check for a little spur on the bridge...fine-grain sand paper will take care of it

you overcame its linear expansion and overcame the strings tension....so tune down!!!

but really i have no clue....i was tuning my 6-string and that weeeee little string just snapped on me...and now my bridge tension is all mussed up and it wont stay in tune....thats why i stick to bass, you cant break those strings

Heh! I had a buddy withs ome kind of special bass that used short-scale lite gague, flats. He searched everywhere for them (this was a long time ago). Finally found a set, and while putting then on the bass, he broke one! Had to buy a whole other set! That sux!

Yeah my bandmate always breaks his D-string on his taylor acoustic.. Consistently. Never breaks any other strings. Why the D?!!?!

its all about that tuning thing.....i think its the tension the string has to be at to get that tone of note....thats just what i think...

ps: never try to tune the high e string to a high b....it doesnt quite work....
