Why am I not wild about Mesa-Boogie?

So even though Mesa amps sound like flat lifeless pieces of wet cardboard, you hate them because of a design flaw that has no affect on normal usage. That sounds reasonable to me. :D

As a Mesa afficianado, ggunn, I thought it was hilarious. :D Then again, I'm pretty cool with poking fun at myselff, so YMMV... lol

I hate Marshalls. O.K. Everybody jump on me.
I also hate Boogies, Vox'es['es?] Line 6, Fender M80's and a host of other amps
BUT ... that is my personal opinion.
I like my '77 Super Twin Reverb 'cause I'm USED TO IT!!! It gives me what I want and that's that.
I also have a Valve Special...meh...

If someone showed up at your door with a fist full of cash and some good songs with a Frontman 15...are you gonna turn him away???

I'd mic that bitch up in a second!!!

I think you probably like your '77 Super Twin simply because it's just a really great sounding amp.;)

Why you dislike the others is beyond me, but can't argue against the tone of a Twin Reverb.

I own, and have owned many amps, including some amps that guys would give their left nut for. My Boogies remain my favorite.

There is no need to turn them up to 10. They are not built for it, and it is not needed. My 50 watt 50 Caliber on 3 drowns out my 100 watt JCM800 maxed out, which has to be on 10 to get a decent metal tone out of. My Dual Rec is the same.

Who cares if they have a design flaw?

P-90 pickups could be said to have a design flaw (they're noisy, right?)

But they sure sound great through my 1966 black face vibrolux.

If you don't like Mesa amps, don't use one. Problem solved!

But over the years, I've heard 'sounds just like a Boogie' about many pretenders - and none of which sounded anything like a Boogie.

Bottom line - if it sounds good to you, it is good.

Well, I dislike their tone too, but that's not what I'm talking about here. What I dislike is sloppy craftsmanship, and this is sloppy craftsmanship no matter if it is seldom an issue or not. It COULD be an issue; and simple, basic, easily understood and undertaken standard practices for amp design could take care of it. Of course it bugs me. And printing in the manual the equivalent of, "don't mind the smell, we just took a giant dump in the corner, but that's normal." doesn't make up for bad design work. I would NEVER cut corners like that in one of my guitars, or my amps if I were trying to sell them. Hell, I'm just making amps for myself, and I STILL wouldn't cut corners like that.

They are pretty open about it NOT being designed to be played at 10.
