The guy from Meshuggah
The guy from distrurbed
Taylor Hawkins
Dave Grohl

and yes, the guy from the police.

Yeah, the Disturbed guy fer sure.

Reminds me of Rikki Rockket...

Sort of a "hot" drummer these days and in all of the drumming magazines etc, but if you sit and listen to his work, his timing is really shit and he sounds almsot nervous when he plays (if that makes sense)

Joe

alex van hagar....er I mean stewart copeland...

oooppps what I really mean is neal peart...:D

what's the point?

MESHUGGAHS DRUMMER OVER-RATED...NOT REALLY HE IS QUITE GOOD. I WOULD CHALLENGE ANY DRUMMER ON THIS BOARD TO TRY, AND I STRESS THIS, TRY AND PLAY A COMPLEX MESHUGGAH TUNE. I DOUBT THAT IT WILL HAPPEN. AND WHAT IS ALL THIS TALK ABOUT NERVOUS DRUMMERS. I AM NOT TRYING TO START ANY ARGUEMENTS OR FLAMING, BUT THE GUY FROM DISTURBED IS QUITE TALENTED. HIS FEET ARE EXTREMELY GOOD, BUT HIS HANDS SEEM TO BE A WEAKER POINT THAN ANYTHING. AND EVEN AFTER THAT BEING SAID HOW CAN YOU SAY THE TIMING OF CERTAIN GUYS SUCK WHEN ALL OF THE MUSIC THEY MAKE THE DRUMS ARE ON THE MONEY. AND IF ALL OF THESE DRUMMERS PLAYED AS HARD AS THEY COULD THE MUSIC WOULD MOST LIKELY COME OUT AS BEING CONTRIVED, EMPTY...MUCH LIKE ALOT OF NEOCLASSICAL GUITARISTS THAT ARE ALL TECHNIQUE AND NOT ALOT OF FEELING. MOST PEOPLE MAKE JUDGEMENTS ON INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS BASED ON THEIR BANDS...NOT EVERY DRUMMER THAT IS IN A BAND PLAYS AS COMPLEX OR AS MIND BLOWING AS THEY CAN. THE GOOD ONES DO WHAT IS BETTER FOR THE SONGS. AND ON TO ANOTHER THING, WHERE ARE ALL OF THESE CRITICAL DRUMMERSON HERE...I LISTEN TO STUFF ON HERE AND THE DRUMS ARE EITHER ELECTRONIC, OR REALLY BASIC. NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT BUT I WANT TO HEAR SOME DRUMS FROM SOME OF THE SHIT TALKERS ON THE BOARD. SOMETHING THAT IS JUST TOTALLY "OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS GUY IS THE SHIT" GOOD! I AM ON DIAL UP SO I DON'T GET TO LISTEN TO EVERYTHING SO IF ANYONE CAN POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF SOME CRAZY DRUMMING ON HERE PLEASE DO. BUT HONESTLY I AM A GUITAR PLAYER,NOT A DRUMMER FIRST BUT I CAN PLAY MOST OF WHAT IS ON THE SONGS ON THIS BOARD...AND I DON'T THINK THAT I AM REALLY GOOD OR ANYTHING. JUST NEEDED TO STRESS THESE THINGS. NO FLAMING, JUST STATEMENTS, AND PROPOSALS!

tommy lee...ever hear him sing? omg..

Not cool to post in caps around here, firstly!

Secondly.. Read the original thread post....

We are simply answering about who we think are over rated drummers....

It's my opinion. Live with it dude!....

If you have an opinion, thats cool post it, and if you disagree with our opinion say so..

But, don't call me a shit talker when I am just stating opinion.

Thats what this thread is about.

Good Day.

Are you guys serious?

Even though I wasn't very impressed with his work on the Oysterhead stuff, I still regard Stewart Copeland as one of the most inovative drummers of all times.

What is it that makes you guys think he's overrated? Is he not Heavy Metal Thrasher enough for you, or what?

I think most of the modern Heavy Metal and Punk drummers are overrated. Just because you can play 16th notes on your double-bass drums, and play really fast, and hit really hard, does not make you an awesome drummer (and keeping time, is just mandatory at any speed). I can masterbate really really fast on time for hours (64th notes and triplets even).

maybe I'm completely wrong here.....but some of those posts need to be read a the 'tongue-in-cheek' variety (especially mine!!)....
these kind of posts have been beaten to death on this board...

how do you masturbate a triplet? stroke in threes?

and wow....64th notes....you'd need lots o' lotion for that exercise!:D

Once again i must say for the record i am not flaming, or getting an attitude. i want to know what makes up a nervous sounding drummer. And everyone is entitled to an opinion. As far as the caps thing is concerned, "WHATS THE BIG FUCKING DEAL!" What is "nervous drummer" And can anyone point out impressive drumming on this board...that is all that i asked!! No problems VOX!

Nervous Playing is just my way of explaining it...

Bad timing, they sound almost unsure or nervous.. Not much more I can say to explain it.....

Im not going to consider your challenge of other drummers being better here on this bbs, cause that not what this thread is about.

I am getting bored with this shit.

I said my opinion, of who I think is overated...

Moving on dude.

LOL

you want impressive drumming....

- check out Terry Bozzio's 'Live in Concert' video or virtually any of Terry's other drumming (eg. w/Zappa; w/Tony Levin, Steve Stevens; his solo stuff; etc.)

terry is so far ahead of 99% of the drummers on the planet, it isn't even funny

- check out Chad Wackerman, in particular check out an Allan Holdsworth record called "Road Games" or perhaps "Metal Fatigue"....

- check out Rick Calaluca, drummer for now defunct metal band 'Watchtower' (though they are recording now...) - the album 'Energetic Dissassembly'......now that's impressive drumming

- check out Bill Bruford - any of his drumming - solo, w/King Crimson, Yes, Earthworks......WOW!!'

- check out Billy Martin.....the guy can get the groove on unlike any player out there....

you wanted impressive.......you got it...

PEACE TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Pratt i totally agree with some of the drummers you mentioned, not all because i haven't heard all of them. But like Terry Bozzio, that guy is ridiculous. It almost makes you think about calling it a day. I know there are tons of drummers out there that are better than most drummers around today. But i was actually talking about drummers from the Homerecording world. And i meant it in this way, alot of people here are really critical of playing and abilities, and i just wanted to hear some music from homerecorders that are the shit on drums. Most of what i hear on this forum, although it is really good playing, is also really basic. I just think that people are too harsh and general sometimes. And i know everyone has there opinion, but i don't think it is always vocalized properly. I wouldn't say anybody sucks on anything or wasn't that great if i couldn't play as good as them. that is what i am getting at. Some here think that Dave Lombardo sucks, i don't but even if i didn't care for him i wouldn't say he is over rated or sucks if i myself could not play equal to or better than him. I hate polls...they always get me into trouble. Take care everyone.

Wow . . . Allan Holdsworth, that takes me back. That is one amazing album, along with the next couple he did with guitar synth. I have a theory that nobodys plays guitar synth because Allan the early adopter mastered it completely so there was no point in anyone else trying--sort of like golf and Tiger Woods.

Anyway, re: drums and musicianship in general, lemme tell a story about another guitar hero, John McLaughlin. I saw him in concert c. 1990, not with Mahavishnu, just a trio w/ a tabla player and fretless bass, I think. John was WAY WAY past the 'play as fast as I can' stage.

So these three are spread out across a big stage; John is stage left and I'm basically looking at his back as faces stage right. So a guy a few seats away from me yells out "Show us your fingers John". So he turns, stares at the guy, and strums a C chord a few times.

Moral of the story: The most overrated drummer is one who never gets up on stage (RL or virtual).
