Just tried installing brand new Presonus Firebox on my new machine. To make a long story short, my system won't recognize the Firebox. I've installed a new PCI Firewire card as recommended by Presonus with the same result. After visiting the Presonus forum I've seen similar issues with Firebox (as well as some of their other products), none of the issues have been addressed which is giving me a sinking feeling. Soooo...I'm thinking that I may need to send FB back.

I was thinking about switching to either Motu 8Pre or Ultralight but then was wondering if I would have the same problem with that supplier and Hardware compatibility. Or would it be better all around if I just purchased a PCI I/F card instead. I don't need the portability, I just thought it would be easier to get a plug/play unit (NOT).

Any suggestions/insights?

Thx.

This might not be an option, but you could potentially try reinstalling the operating system and installing the Presonus right away.

Otherwise I have been doing research on the 8pre for a few months and the issues seem to be few and far between.

Sorry I couldn't help more...

You'll get it working...it'll be something basic and simple that you've overlooked. Just keep trying.

Have you ever had a fire wire device working on that machine? Might not be the firebox... Have you checked the device manager to see if there's any hardware with errors or unknown... try removing the firewire card in the device manager, rebooting and reinstalling... do you have the latest drivers for both the FW card and Firebox... yup... could be just about anything

Have you ever used a firewire device on this computer before?

If not, in 'Network Connections', is there a network called '1394'?

Thanks for the feedback. Heres some other info:

The machine had only been turned on for about 5 days (Just got it and took it out of the box)
I have plugged an External Hard Disk into the original firewire ports and it was recognized so the old one seems to be working. I'll try the new Card.
The network card was just installed yesterday and was seen by Windows installed itself on Vista 64bit and is working without conflict. It's a TI chip set (SIIG 400012).
The FireBox also doesn't install on another laptop I have running XP SP2. Same problem Blue light 2 secs then steady Red.
As far as the network connection goes, I do not have a 1394 connection in Vista but I do have it on in the XP laoptop. Should I also have this network connection in Vista? And if no network connection why did Vista see both the original Card and the New SIIG?

Again, thanks so much for helping. Just seems like I'm learning more about my machine than I wanted and not getting to dig into my applications.
