I now have 4 P90 guitars. When I was a teenager, I sat in at a few jams, and the tones I was getting from the guitars I was playing (SG Classics, probably) were amazing. I wondered why I never got that tone again--until a few years ago when I played a couple of guitars with P90s. The tone isn't the same as a Strat single coil. My latest, a LP Studio P90, is a tone fucking monster, and would have to be pried from my cold, dead hands.

I've got Duncan P-Rails in my Stinnett and they are a combo of a single coil and a P-90.
I like the P-90 setting a lot.

Got a chance to grab a pair of soapbars from a PRS. Don't know what PRS, so if you ask, the answer will be... "I don't know." The guy replaced them with a pair of DeMarzio humbuckers, and said he probably wasted his money 'cause the DM's didn't sound much better, if that helps. I can get 'em both for $20, maybe less.

For $20, you may as well do it. Toss 'em in the Squier Strat, and spend another $25 on a new pickguard. You're out $45 bucks, and even if they don't work out for you, you'll at least now know firsthand what P90s sound like, and can probably recoup most if not all of that, possibly even turning a profit, if you don't like the sound.

They're most likely from a PRS SE, especially at that price. The pickups in my Singlecut SE are actually pretty awesome, but those are full 'buckers. I've talked to a couple guys who've played the P90s and they were pretty impressed with them too, so you're probably safe - they're definitely worth a lot more than $20.
