I looked through the current threads trying to find a good place to post this, but this old thread still seemed like the most appropriate place. Harvey, Sorry it took me so long to post this. I've been out of town with no computer...gasp! *grin*
So I had the opportunity to roll out and check out Harvey's setup the other day. He played me some stuff that he'd done and stuff he was working on, and even though I was ignorant and didn't know what I was listening for, I was still impressed. Although, some of the music wasn't exactly my style, I recognized qualtiy when I heard it.
I came to realize how much of an art producing and recording really was. With so many different voices, instruments, and musical styles, to would be inadequate to call it a science. With such a broad spectrum of possibilities to handle, every recording is a unique challenge, and it takes your experience, know how, intuition, and luck. We are lucky to have a guy like Harvey sharing his experience and know how with us. *sigh*. Right now, the only thing I have in my corner is dumb luck.
Afterwards, we sat down and yapped for a while, and I soaked it up. Harvey patiently fielded all of my questions without ever (seemingly) getting annoyed or condecending. I saw a closet full of mics ($$$), a V67 set up for a session later, and the infamous C1. Adjustable sound padding, bass traps, and lots and lots of buttons.
I thougt it was interesting that even with so many other expensive mics to choose from, it was the V67 (the mic I'm going to buy) that was set up for use. cool beans.
Harvey also opened my eyes to the god known as Steven Paul. Guys, we have a living legend here in our midst. This man does stuff with microphones that no one else in the world can. He outclasses multi million dollar companies by himself, and he's here. Talking and joking with us. Amazing.
Well. I dont want to clutter the board too much more with my babble. So I will bow out now.
Harvey, Steven Paul...hats off to you both.
