Who is the most underrated guitarist?

Elliot Randall did the solo work on "Reelin'..." I think most of the guitarist who played with the Dan deserve a place on this list....your comments about Becker could apply to several others as well.
 
OK, here's another highly under-rated guitarist: Marshall Crenshaw.

Incredible pop writer and player.

I definately agree there... Some people praise Van Halen for the guitar work... but in my opinion, the band is over here.. and Eddie is god knows where, playing to a totaly different song.
 
Gary Hoey has my vote has done quite alot never hear him spoken of
 
I never liked the white stripes much until i saw the under blackpool lights dvd, and it was surprisingly good, you wouldn't think someone who plays on that cheap of a rig and doesnt have a bass player could sound that good. my vote is for jack white.
 
Hi All,

Well...nine pages now, and noone has bothered to mention Dave Edmunds...his main blip on the commercial radar was 'Sabre Dance' in 1968, and if you obsess about speed, try that one...afterwards, just churning out albums with great guitar work, great songs, and not really getting attention.

Bob Brozman...acoustic picking wizard and historian, can play just about anything that has strings and really do justice to the genre, be it blues, Hawaiian, early jazz, or whatever hits him...really a genius in his areas, and, I would venture, pretty unknown to most average customers.

Chris Spedding...saw him with Robert Gordon, just the right amount of everything, skill, taste, and that indefinable something that comes with long experience.

And a final shout for Danny Gatton, our regional guitar hero.

I think if anything John Mayer has been getting too much credit lately. He's good, but not spectacular.

I agree on Gary Hoey. He's an excellent guitarist that's always been overshadowed by players like Vai and Satch when his playing is often more melodic and fun.

I hear people talk about Derreck Trucks, but I don't really think he gets the attention he deserves.

Another is Phil Keaggy who is truly mindblowing and rarely mentioned outside of Christian circles or hardcore guitar enthusiasts.
