The scoop is, I want the green/gold one...black is useless to me :)

Hehe...but...I *really* want the mic, i just can't stand getting the black one. So..anyone have recent success with someone matching the price?

I heard samash would...I just got a letter back from them saying that they were "out of stock" on the mic. Very well may be true...but, then again...maybe they are just giving me the runaround.

Anyone got some potentials for me? Thanks!

I have an extra V67G green shell and gold grill that I'll trade you straight across for your black shell and grill.

Yeah, Sam Ash did for me, but it took some convincing. After being turned down on the phone and turned down by email, I used their price-match email function. They responded about three days later with a yes ($105 shipped). I, being impatient, bought a V67M anyway from Mars. So when I get off of my lazy butt, I am gonna swap them so I have a black and gold and a green and black. Just don't say "G", just say V67. I found that if you pointed out the "G" they were reluctant to do it.

8th Street sold me the v67G for $100 + $30 for the matching MXL-57 shockmount. I asked them to pricematch the mic to Mars Music, and the shockmount to Zzounds and MusiciansFriend prices.

That was 2 weeks ago. I don't think anyone has really reported problems with the black ones yet (the one's that Hervey didn't originally test), so I reckon they'd be alright.

The box it came in had a picture of the black one on it (darn, ripped off again, I thought), but I struck gold when I opened the box.

I'm enjoying the gold as a nice distracting novelty at the moment, but who knows how durable it will be? Maybe it will flake off later. I'm normally not so fussed on looks, but you do spend a lot of time staring into a mic, so whatever you like. I'm not so fussed on the green brass base however, as it looks like plastic. I'd paint over the base (Hervey says you can, I recall, so it must be true), but I haven't got the equipment or the energy. I think a dark grey with a hint of dark bluish tinge would really set of the gold top nicely.

Did you hear? Marshall is bringing out a range of interchangeable grills and bases (just like mobile phone colours), so that you can match the singer's mood/song. You have to be really carefull with what Monster or BLUE cable you pair it up with though. Okay, I'm just being silly now. :p

hehe...nice..nice.

I will check out 8th street....if they are a no go then I will take Harvey up on his offer ;)

I guess I got a bit ripped-off, paying $189 for the V67G with shockmount. But I'm happy anyway.

I don't regret getting the 603s', V93, V67G recently.

Does anyone here wish to compare the 603s' to something else they may be similar-sounding with?

Harvey? Anyone?

hmmm....now I am wondering if that gold is going to flake off..

why'd you give me that nightmare :)

anyone else have thoughts on this?

black is suddenly sounding a bit more attractive..heh

The Marshall MXL-603S compares very favorably to the Sound Room's Oktava MC012 and to the Neumann KM184.

I've owned the V-67Gs for over a year now, and there have been no flaking problems whatsoever.

Harvey,

Would there be any foreseeable problem with removing the gold grille and spraying it with a clear metal preserver to stop tarnishing, etc........

music123.com has a beat the price button. I don't know if they have the green/gold though.

There's a very fine mesh behind the outside coarse mesh. I would be very concerned about filling up the holes in that fine mesh by spraying something into it.

Thanks Harvey,

Fair enough............MXL's aren't being imported here yet so I haven't had the chance to see any of the range.

This raises another question for you though,...........from your experiences with the V-67G and the SP C1, is there enough of a difference between the two mics to warrant me considering importing a V-67G to add to the C1 in my meagre collection or would I be better looking towards a LD tube condenser.

All and any advice appreciated.

If I already owned a C1, I probably wouldn't buy a V67. I'd either look for a tube mic, a ribbon mic, or an SM7 to round out my vocal mic collection.

Harvey, speaking of tube mics,Musicians Friend has the Nady SCM 1100 on sale for $199.Have you ever tried one or know anything about it?I think I am going to try a SP TB-1 ($299) when they are available but I am not 100% decided. The other mics I was thinking of are the new SP B-3 ($150)or a Groove Tube AM 52($199) which are multipatterned LDs.My other mics include an Audio Technica 3525(which I like)and a Mxl2001p(p for POS)which are both cardoid.I'm not sure about how much use I'll get out of the other patterns.I know its a subjective question but do you think that the multipatterns would be handy?Or should I get a tube mic?My other mics are a pair of Behringer ECMs,an AKG 880 and a variety of other cheap dynamics and a 7 pc Nady drum mic kit.Thanks.

I haven't tried many Nadys, but I would be very cautious about their consistency from unit to unit.

I would add my .02 and agree with Harvey. Personally I went with the C1 over V67 even though it was few $$ more. Every mic has its purpose but I think the C1 is a much better mic than the V67.

If I had the money I would add a couple of their T3's to my mic locker.

Thanks Harvey.I think I will take a pass on the Nady,I saw $199 and almost bit.I think I'll go with Alan's new mic for $299.At least I know he stands behind his products.Sometimes I tend to be pennywise and dollar foolish.
