Magic Bag Of Sounds
heh..
i won a used soudncraft live8 mixer off ebay a few weeks ago for $150, $25 shipping. great deal as far as i was concerned. it was from music go round in chicago. they didn't accept paypal or anything so i sent a check and they never cashed it.. so i cancelled it and called them. they said i could just give them my credit card number to pay for it. but.. now they're saying the item has been put in their store for $199 and i'd need to pay $30 for shipping. i figure thats the best deal i can get (since theres on in a music store here in horrible condition for $600!). so i give them my number and they call back today saying it can't be cleared. my bank has no idea why they would say that and my account has more than enough money.
since the auction ended so long ago i can't give feedback or do anything ebay related.
i don't know what to do. i'm starting to second guess even trying doing business with them but i really need 8 preamps of some sort and this seems like the most affordable option.. even if its now 50 bucks more than what it was technically sold to me for.

has anybody used these to give credit to how decent the preamps are? its an older mixer that seems to be marketed towards "live" use, so i have no clue how that will effect its recordability status?

They are moderately grainy sounding but work for tracking a band. Not much else to say. The EQ in the board is very accurate. Overall they won't enhance your recordings, as some preamps do, but they are not severely detracting either. I use one to track bands but only instruments not vocals.

grainy as in noisey? i'm trying to imagine grainey and all i can think of would be the audio version of a webcam pic from 1995.

well the card went through today so it looks like i'll be gettng this. if all else fails i can probably break even selling it to a music store here.

If I remember right the Live 8 is from the Spirit line. If that is the case, I tend to avoid them like the plague. However, for the right price it may just be a good deal for you:)

great, well i'll give it a try and hopefully i don't hate that shit

well i got this today and i'm really happy so far. its quite used and the second i plugged headphones into it i heard a hiss but it doesn't seem to get any more noticable the more inputs i crank, so i'm thinking its a dirty headphone connector or something. we'll be recording later this week when it stops raining so much in stupid florida.

I'm not familiar with the Live 8 but I've been using a Spirit Studio 24/8 for a few years and so far there have been no complaints about the quality of recordings..........it is definitely better (yeah, I know that is subjective) than the Mackie 8 buss consoles in regards to the preamps, EQ and build quality.
