He's just this guy I'd heard of. You're probably too young to understand.
Two to think about. I like John Maclaughlin too, but in small doses... too many notes per second and a lot of its noodling from my point of view.
Just ignore the '70s, he played quite tastefully after that.
Did he? I'll have to check him out.. I only have Birds of Fire... nice, when I'm in the mood... but sometimes it's like nails on a blackboard...
