As it stands Im on pretty low income with bills here and there... So buying the best gear aint gunna work too well for me..

But for what ive got, I am able to record just not amazing

Im putting together a Cover Album which I will be giving out for free at the start of 2011.. It will be a free CD just to publicise... and I will also hopefully be gigging.

Im looking for someone REALLY talented to touch up my stuff and make it so theres no clipping and stuff, if its do able..

I use FL studio.. which ive been told isnt the best... But i know how to use it for basics....

I have a template where I upload the instrumental into one channel, then the microphone is set up and it like plays the instrumental and i record my peice over that... then i turn the instrumental up or down to get correct kinda levels... but I always get clipping after its all done.. even when i put some limiter and stuff on.. Im terrible...

Its starting to take its toll... and i havent found anyone on here, thats seemed interested... as if its cheating asking for someone to help me on this...

You guys are good thats why i need your help :)

right so you so you have an instrument track and you layer a vocal track on it...fine now just mix that to -14dbs...or around...peaking at around -9ish (or thereabouts)...clipping is caused by you having everything to hot at this stage

Bounce it down to a wave file then re-import it as a new project in FL

Import two or three songs of a similar genre as references

Adjust the reference tracks so they have a similar loudness as your track

Insert a parametric EQ and use gentle adjustments to get your track to sound as balanced as the reference tracks, add a compressor and start at a gentle setting with a limiter at the end with around a -3db ceiling

Use the compressor and limiter to gently bring the loudness of your track up to a more commercial level...bring the reference tracks up to match, always A/Bing between them, this is to check that the compressor isnt changing the sound of your track..if it is insert another EQ between the compressor and limiter and make some gentle adjustments

This isnt an exact science but the fact its an instrumental track to begin with should make this pretty simple...even so make a separate project for each and start to practice with the compressors ratios and thresholds

This guy I need to improve and I've an Idea - Home Recording Forum is trying to get people to send him stuff to master. He's learning, but I thought he did a great job on my mix. Certainly, he did better than I was able to do. You'll have to ask him about being permitted to release the masters. I bet he'd be glad to do it for the practice and for a credit on your album acknowledging him as the master or whatever. But I don't know for sure; you should ask him. BTW, from his email adddress, it looks like he's in China, but that didn't casue any problems when I dealt with him.

Be very careful that you get the royalties covered for those songs that you are doing.

This has helped a bit to say the least !

But I dont think im ever going to get it right with me just sitting doing it on my own ! I also have cubase at hand which im trying to use, seems to be alot better than FL studio anyway !
