Which vocal mic around 150?

I think we're in a very cool situation with the ES57 knock off for guitar amps, the fabulous MSH-1A SDCs for acoustic sources including drum OHs, and I like what Drew said about the Beta 58.

Anyone can mic their home studio beyond their skills for less than $250.

im a 'sarcastic douchebag'.

hehe.. no shit? get the hell out of here!

but please sign!! i sign mine! im not even the retaliatory type..

Yea- You and asshole jonnyc are sarcastic fucking know nothing DOUCHEBAGS. I would love to hear whatever "music" shit heads like you can come up with. Unless you're too busy posting 3.7 million times a day that you have no time to make music. If you jackasses wrote as much music per day as you do posts on this site per day, then maybe you would feel musically satisfied, like us real "MUSICIANS" do. Gee, with all that time taken up with posting on this site every day it's a wonder you have time to wipe your ass. Probably the only thing you're good at. (I could be wrong) Do you even know how to wipe your ass or do you have to post every time you have to do that too? Maybe search the "I'm such an asshole I don't know how to wipe my ass" thread. Some of us are busy making, recording, performing, producing and SELLING our music, that we don't feel the need to be sarastic bitches. I guess happiness and contentment breeds the same-assholes like you guys breed negativity. PLEASE let me know where I can hear some of your music-I could use another laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you assholes for providing soooo much entertainment these last few days .

Here's a nice hearty FUCK YOU to you and yours (mostly to YOU)

Just kidding...no .....really...just kiddd...O.K.

Nah, Drew's ok; he just has hung out with Fletcher for way too long. Fletcher and I agree on a lotta things; we disagree on other things, BUT, we respect each other's opinions. Drew hasn't hung around a lotta MXL stuff, so he doesn't know that some of their stuff is pretty good. Give him time; he'll come around.

Try not passing judgement on ones skills before hearing them. If your lazy ass would just use the search you'd see several postings of songs I've recorded. So am I really the douchebag? You started all this name calling so who's the immature one?

Why are you laughing?

Hey shithead- Im not a musician- I'm an AMATEUR RECORDING ENGINEER. I only make music to test my skills/equiptment, and at that, i dont even test my own music. and are you a real musician hotshot??

We provided you with entertainment? you're just another asshole that we periodically deal with here at HR.com.

I post all day long because I'm at work, and i get paid to sit around and do what i feel like doing.

and for reference, the practice of "douching'' is effective 45% of the time, therefore, i would not be a worthless person; i would be a 45% efficient person, which is more than anything you have amounted to.

Yeah Sal lets hear some of your virtuoso work. You should really put something out there before you make a statement like that, you haven't proven a shred of skill yet you'll bash ours without even hearing it. Sounds like what we've got here is someone who's got a chip(probably bullied a lot in school) on his shoulder and on top of it all is turning out to be quite the hypocrite. BTW, you're not funny at all dude, well your goon thought you were funny, buy anyway why don't you share some of your skills with us?

I don't know this kid any more than you do, Johnnyc. It was funny. It was an out-of-control rant, and it was pisser! Reading it for what it is outside of context was hilarious. You don't like my response?

Not a grown man among you blowhards, I say. Go ahead and make the forum a rumble (from your computer keyboards! :p ).

Meanwhile, there seems to have been some useful advice that surfaced somewhere in this morasse...

Why can't we all just settle our differences and post about vocal mic's under $150 :)

If I could convince you to up your budget to $200 there are alot more options such as the AKG C2000B. The CAD M177 is only 170, and I've heard good things about that one too.

The Studio Projects B3 is only $160. But under $150 is really quite limited :(

Hope that helped a bit

O.k.

I got a Studio Projects B3, and it's a pretty good mic! I used it for ambience just around the corner from the room being performed in (a small room, with a little treatment- the B3 was in an adjacent, reflective area), recording to a Tascam 788. I brought the level up on the B3's track during mixdown enough to add it's space and brightness to the sound, and it was great. The tune got some nice reviews over on the FaSoft forum. I'll find it and post a link when I get a minute. If you go there, it's a rendition of "Red River Valley" (by "Sloom"- in the "n-Track Music" threads).

Anyhow, I have gotten some nice use and results out of it. Haven't used it for everything yet- I do this when time/opportunity arises (work a lot at carpentry). I've been posting the last few days and no recording, since my PC's off getting upgraded, and other excuses- but I feel good about using it in Omni mode so far.

Also, if you're into DIY tripping, try the mod on a spare 57, if you have more than two. Look up the Tape Op SM57 modification...

its about who you know dude..

longs story; but here goes.

been taking guitar lessons since i was 6 ish. got more serious around 13.
turned 14, guitar teacher asked me to work for him, manage his students, teachers, scheduling, payment etc.

drum teacher partnered with guitar teacher, opened retail music shop. drum teacher and guitar teacher have separate companies, same building (not a partnership, but we are kinda together)

drum teacher has older guy working, older guy gets real job, drum teacher asks me to work for him a couple days a week. that was last summer. since then, i stopped working for guitar teacher and picked up working for drum teacher more.

now i work 40 hours a week. i actually work maybe a total of 6 hours, and sit around for the other 34 though.

all about who you know.

my boss happens to be a producer, original owner of PowerPlay Studios in NYC in the early 80s. we're opening a new studio where i will be an apprentice (!)

Ive got one mic that I paid more than $100 for and thats because I bought the V67 when it was over $150......

and even with my limited recording skills I can pull decent sounds out of them....I stick with my recommendation......

I think I might buy one of those MSH-1A things, I'm pretty interested...

And I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the MXL 991 is not a bad mic for acoustic instruments...

I agree with getting a 58 also, everyone needs more than one...
