Captain Sea Boots
Here's the deal. I need to be able to record two or three tracks simultaneously. I am micing an acoustic guitar at several different positions. Right now I have a crappy Soundblaster Live 5.1 card. So I need to upgrade to something that will give me more inputs.
My dilemma is this: should I buy a decent 1-input card (like an Audiophile 2496) and a mixer (I was looking at the Yamaha MG12/4)? Or is it better to just buy a soundcard with more inputs? It seems like the cost will be similar for both methods.
I should also mention that I only have 1 pre-amp (SP VTB-1) at the moment. It looks like most of the mixers and upper end sound cards have pre-amps. I only have one condensor mic, so my VTB-1 will do fine for providing phantom power.

I would say your best bet would be a multi input soundcard with built in pres. you'll be skipping the middleman.

Another issue is that I plan on playing a bunch of gigs within the next few months, and having a mixer would certainly be nice.
