I havn't read the entire thread, but....

I have a question...........................
I'm using cubase 5.1\VST on a PC. I like the way it works and its stable on my computer. Everything is perfect.....................(the enemy of good is better, right?)
Are there any other software products that will actually SOUND BETTER?

I record on a DAW (yamaha aw4416) and export this to NUENDO (for mixing) and finally to CEP (for mastering)

CEP is great for matering (read: sample editing).. the multitrack mode is great for transfering analog/adat tracks.. also for recording multiple tracks, but NOT for mixing.
That's where Nuendo comes in...
I've been checking q-base for years, but like Nuendo much more.. it's like I'm mixing on a real mixing console!
and the automation is just superb!!

The DAW is portable and handy for all kind of recordings, but for mixing I REALLY like the computer based things..
Mixing on the AW4416 is a bore, the automation sux big time and have only 2 internal FX (aux)... and they sound average..

I also use these plugins:
- TC native
- Ultrafunk sonitus
- Waves ultramaximizer

The ultrafunk and TC native plugs are just te greates I ever seen!

Slack, can you lock this thread? It's getting rather annoying...

1. Sonar 2.2 XL for recording using WAVES effects

2. Sonar for mastering (using L2)

3. Sound Forge for 24 to 16 bit transformation

Don't kill this thread

Just ignore it if you don't want to read it. I garauntee you that there's alot of folk starting out on the computer end of things (like me) that have been blessed by it.

besides, it probably eliminates at least a few of the "what's the best X to buy?" threads

I've used Acid and Fruity Loops for beats with Cool Edit Pro for mixing and tracking for a year or so and love the setup.
I'm going to check out the Vegas/ Sound Forge setup. Everyone can't be wrong.

I use nuendo. I also have two nuendo ADI 8 convertors and a NUENDO 96/52 hammerfall.
Its pricey but its nice.

Cool Edit by Adobe?!?

Yup.

Recent installs (registrations) of CEP come with a special license modification which replaces all incidences of Syntrillium with Adobe Systems Inc., or whatever their legal name is. Came into effect some time in May, I think.

then don't read it. why do dicks like you have to ruin it for those of us who are enjoying this (or at least not annoyed by it)?

ha ha . . . i guess in trying to keep this thread alive i actually ended up killing it! oh well everything that needed to be said had already come out.

I use Acid Pro 4.0
Cool Edit Pro 2.0
and Sound Forge 6.0

but CEP has been giving me problems tracking to it so I've just been using SF lately.

I think SF sounds better, too....as a stereo recorder.

Protools for audio recording
logic for sequencing midi/audio
peak for editing
recycle for doing all recyclie type stuff
I also like reason for making loops
in my very arrogant opinion you should bypass all the wannabe software and use pro audio stuff, it really does make a huge diffrence.
When you learn the more complicated stuff straight away it gives you a much greater understanding of computer sequencing, so when you come across the more commercial ones like cakewalk they seem puny in comparison whereas if you where to learn cakewalk or fruityloops first you may find yourself daunted by logic and pro tools.
if you just wanna quick fix then try music 2000 on the playstation.

by the way stienberg should learn to test there software before they release it, ten years ago they were innovators now there just sad old men.
Admitedly I havent used sx yet, but the way things have been going for them I would'nt be suprised if they went out of biz in the next year or two.

I'm told it's in the works;)

PowerTracks 8 DOES Do 26/96. I have it as well as n-Track. The Free DX Plugins with PT 8 (except PG Reverb) works great with n-Track too. There's a bunch of em too.
