Most peeps here will tell you they'd like anything but the Behringer so it begs the question; Why a Behringer?

Powered mixers can power passive speakers, whereas unpowered mixers need either active speakers or a seperate power amp to power passive speakers.

hey, thanks froggy.

Why behringer? its cheap and im just starting out. Anyway, i've heard lots of good things as well as the bad.

When I very first started into digital realm, after ten years not doing anything with music, I got the UB802 mixer there. But, connecting to my computer still had problems, like latency, and that you had to go to a small plug for the pc's soundcard. I used it a few times before just getting an external audio interface. I got an E-Mu usb2 which has been great - but just for single inputs at a time, mind you.
For a mixer I'd get something better. Save three or four times your money and get a Mackie or better brand.
Or get a firefox unit with eight inputs or so for the interface to your pc. You can get your rough mix (just as good as the Behringer will give you) using the inputs of the interface. Notebooks don't have good systems already with low ram etc.
You will only have to upgrade because of the soundcard on the notebook ...
I sold my 802 to a guy who was doing acoustic with him and his friend at bars - two gats plus two mics in. That was fine he said (surprisingly) but now they have included a violin fiddle and are pressing to get it thru on their mixer.
My advice - look ahead and view what you will keep instead of throwing good money into something you might not use for long. I mean, without the interface you will find it hard to record, or perhaps if you get the cheaper mixer remember you will still have to get the interface as well.
Or, get an interface/mixer in one like this: http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--BEHXENYX2442FX
