i guess that some people don't worry about the possibility of panning something they record, per say, the hi hat.
You asked for opinions, you got em. But of course, you know the best out of any of us, right?

I'll chime in with the Shure SM-81 SDC. If you buy a pair of them, you can also use them for acoustic guitar, or for overheads if you decide you don't need to mic the hat.

I'll second that.

sad you don't know your place.

Certainly I take a different view than some of these folks. For every n mics used in a situation you have n-1 squared number of potential phase and bleed problems. I guess I just like KISS (both the band and Keep It Simple Stupid)

You're not going to go very far talking to the veteran posters that way.

DO THEY STILL MAKE (oops, Caps) AT-33R's? I think thats what they are called anyway, those were great!
No actually ...

The ATM33R's were replaced by ATM33A's. I was lucky enough to snag a pair of 33R's on ebay for about $120 a year or so ago ...

What's the difference between the two models?

I'm a minimalist in drum micing, but I love old EVs or Shures on them. Whatever you can pick up for $15-30. Those 70s dynamics have a nice way of wsweetening up the sound of not so great cymbals too.

hmmmm.... good question. I'm not sure other than that the newer "A" models also take a "AA" battery for phantom power. The ones I have do not take batteries

veteran or not, I didn't come here to be a smart ass, and honestly didn't expect to deal with smart asses(especially veteran posters). I guess because someone else might know a little more than another guy that makes it cool to be an ass? I offend when i'm offended. period.

and about you and your little "ding", i haven't the slightest. i'm a grown man, i don't deal with things that way.

DING!!! Time out!!!

ahem...

I'd still consider at least one (preferably two) SM-81's.

Thank you.
