Hey,

I was thinking about buying the Yamaha AW44-16 but a friend told me not to bother. It would be more benificial to buy a computer.
What i want to know is whether it makes sense. I already use Cool Edit Pro for mastering and I know it would be a lot easier if I already had the raw files on the computer rather than hooking up my recorder to it and transfering that way.
The computer would be a lot cheaper but other than that, are there any drawbacks and/or pros. I know it sounds crap, but I like the idea of lots of desks, mixers and equipment in the studio. :D

Thanks for any help

Hey Bert,

You already have a recording medium. Why not spend your money (based on what you want to buy, Much Mula) on some good outboard gear such as a good preamp or mastering processor.

Just my opinion

Ultimately, you can really only go with what you're comfortable with. I would advise you to do some searches in the forums on the site here, and do a little research if you're not sure about what you would need for the computer. But in the end, if it's outboard stuff you want to go with, then so be it! But if you're already using the computer for mastering, why not multitrack with it too, as long as your computer has the specs?

Personally, I am still relatively new to the whole PC recording thing, and for years I used a Tascam cassette 8-track. I have found the PC to be generally low-cost, easier to use, and with better results.

I don't know much about that Yamaha thing, except that it costs more than my car, and the one I had before that one combined.
