Which CPU for Audio and Effects?

I am looking to upgrade my motherboard and cpu, but which cpu platform and company should I choose? I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible before I go ahead and upgrade. So far, I have been told to go with Socket A, AMD's Duron. Is this the best for audio?
 
AMD K6

My AMD K6 400 mgz CPU works fine for audio but sucks for veido. Just get the fastest CPU you can and lots of RAM helps a grate deal I have 256 megs of RAM. Later, Donny!!!
 
What about a nice Pentium III or even a IV at 500-1.4 mhz?

I always thought that Pentium was the best for Pc's.
 
Intel

Ya frank-1, I'm finding that the Intel CPUs seem to work better for the kind of work we do. I've never used a III but have two Celerons and I don't have any trouble with them. Later, Donny!!!
