which computer should i use

i have two computers right now...one is a mac, one is a pc...trying to figure out which one would be the best to record with, heres there stats...

PowerMac G5
1.8ghz dual processor..Power PC
3 gigs of ram
250gb hard drive runs programs and osx
1.5tb hard drive for sessions and audio files
pro tools 8 le with orignial mbox

or

Asus CG5275
3.20ghz intel i5 processor
8 gigs of ram
1tb hard drive split in two
magix music maker 15
roland vs 1880 as interface/controller

i want something else cause pro tools keeps making this annoying white noise and i cant get it fixed
 
Whichever one works the best for you. If you don't like Protools then get another DAW.:confused:
 
what i mean by which i should use, is which computer would be more fit to be the studio computer..even though the macs older and has less processors and ram..just curious on the computer setup, the macs pretty much topped out and cant be upgraded, the pc is freash out the box and can take 16gb's of ram would it be cheaper to upgrade the pc just a little or would that even be neccessary?
 
I would use the PC for your audio work and the Mac for internet and stuff like that. Although, I would add another hard drive to the pc. Use one for you OS/software and the other for your audio files. And that pc is plenty powerful enough without any upgrades.
 
if you're looking at using the computer as a DAW then there are a few things to note.

1 Magix isn't compatible with windows 7 or 64 bit which is what that Asus machine is loaded with and is awful even if you do manage to get it to work

2 The Roland VS1880 is a stand alone digital workstation. It's not an audio interface and will not work as such with a computer based DAW meaning if you have the Roland there is no need for a computer

3 powermac G5 is a nice machine but is no longer supported in apple's new software/OS releases. you'd be buying into obsolesence.

Neither option is particularly good
 
I know nothing about Magix...download Reaper for $60 (free to try).
 
1.Magix is compatable with windows 7, its clearly stated and i have it running now. Truely not that bad of a program, ived used everyone out there and it seems to keep up.

2.All i need is the roland true, but when it comes to fine editing, it is a pain in the rear. And i had the roland at one time hook to a pc and used it as in interface to get audio into my daw. so i would say it can be used as an interface.

and i already own a powermac g5 wouldnt be buying into anything, bristol...you saying neither one is a good option..what you suggest when it comes to recording then?
 
Assuming you can get drivers and software to function on your new machine (Windows 7, right?), that is the clear winner IMO.
 
yeah i just need to wait till they make some of these new interfaces, or at least have the supporting drivers, which they got already...

so you guys agree pretty much that i should retire the mac and just use as internet/school/email computer
