Where to put monitors?

Hi,

I'm shortly recieving some yamaha msp5 monintors and i'm also moving home. I wont be using the current huge desk i have to work with and was wondering how much putting monitors on speaker brackets on a wall affects the sound.

Will it sound radically different? Is it better to keep them on a desk surface?

Nearfields need to be head level and just a few feet in front of you to be read accurately.
