Where to Post My MP's?

I've been home recording for a little while, couple of years, with a focus on lead guitar work backed up mostly by midi. Like to do re-makes of 70's rock classics that have especially good lead parts. Now have a handful of "finished" projects (they're never really finished....).

I've not yet gone to much trouble to share my stuff with anyone beyond a few like-minded folks at work, but am considering posting somewhere on the web. Any recommendations where best to subscribe? I wouldn't want anything that costs much in the way of money and/or privacy.

(ETA) My purpose wouldn't be to promote anything commercially, just get some hopefully constructive feedback on how to improve.

Also, all of my stuff obviously is from earlier, very-big-name artists. By posting, do I run the risk of some kind of legal infringement? I'm not trying to sell anything, just have fun. This is a hobby.

Thanks giraffe! This gives me a little more to work with.

Perhaps I'll make a report back on which I settled with, and why.

ETA: Hey giraffe, noticed your "stuff" is on the bandrum-recommended soundclick. Is this site considered the favorite around here?

I am in exactly the same spot as you, I am a newbie here and looked at the possibility of posting on Soundclicks. Like you I dont want to pay anything to expensive as I will never make anything out of it financialy.
All I want to do is post so that others might be able to offer some advice on where I am going wrong.
My great love is in remixing my old recordings which were pretty bad, since the advent of computers I have been able to remaster them and though aged in content, they are greatly enhanced by modern technology.
If you find anywhere that fits the bill please post, I would be very greatful.

Thanks Rob for the response here and on on your thread.

We are indeed in the same boat, but apparently somewhat different than the mainstream here, and I was beginning to feel a little refugee-like.

I have looked at the sites that were suggested above. A couple are for general file posting (photos, etc. as well as music) and are not set-up strictly for recording musicians. So as far as I can tell, there's none of the copyright limitations like at soundclick or similar sites. These are:

http://www.putfile.com/ whichhas a 25Mb per file size limit, and

http://www.mytempdir.com/ which has a 40Mb limit.

I haven't subscribed to either yet, but think any of my projects would fit once I convert to MP3's (I need to purchase a conversion extension to my software before I can do this. My mix-downs are all very large .wav files currently.)

Hopefully I'll get something worked out and report back results on a new post.

Hope we may cross paths again!

Thanks Randy, I was ckecking out putfile last night, I think you are right there doesnt seem as many restrictions. When you get somewhere pm me I would like to hear your work.

One of my .wav files is actually just below the 40 Mb limit on mytemdir.com, so I went ahead and tried it. Screen just sat there for about a half hour before I killed it.

Just to see, I tried uploading an image file of about 40Kb, which only took a couple of seconds.

One neat thing about this site is that it is totally annonymous, other than they must have some record of your IP address connection.

I'll get that MP3-conversion extension and try to get some of my tunes on there. Let me know likewise when you get anything available.

I've been looking for a free WAV to MP3 converter for you - it's not easy. There are plenty to convert MP3 to WAV for burning, but not the other way round.

Here are some you can look into:-

CD-DA X-Tractor: http://www.mp3-converter.com/cdda_xtractor.htm - free!

dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC): http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm - good deal for $14.00!
( http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc-power-register.htm ).

I use Audacity for lots of stuff: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ - a great interface, though a bit strange in that you have to 'import' the WAV or MP3 you want to work on, but there's a good Help Menu. And it's ABSOLUTELY FREE - CHECK IT OUT!

just a warning, mytempdir has advantages like
no care what format
relitively large file size
no sign up

but.......... it's slower than death.
just so you know.
 
i tunes is free, and the encoder is fine.
better than many actually.

and, i like sound click and nowhere radio because of the one stop shopping aspect of it.
people easily have access to many things i have up at once.
 
Nero Burning which most people have has a great ripper, in the extra dropdown. it allows you to change format to many of the popular types of compression, wma , lame, mp3, to name three.
