where to place the D112

ive had bad experiances with tuning high, it gets to the point where its so tight there is no resonance and you only haer the attack

BTW i am using pacific drums FS all birch shells

I tune mine pretty low - almost 'loose' - but then again, I'm not a drummer. I find you get more "slap" sound when it's loose, rather than tight. I get a lot of ringing when tight - as you can hear in the clip I posted - it was done when I first got my kit........

I don't know, but the mic sounds fine too me - it sounds like it's implementation problems.......

kicks are wierd, if it's tuned too low, the bass is below the range of human hearing.

and man, that is just floppy.
go up till it's got a note, then bring it back down a little.

p.s. it's not the mic
 
Take all the blankets and pillows out. It isn't the mic, it's the drum.
 
that's really loose for a bass drum.
It is definately not the mic at all.
 
i obviously dont know how to fucking mic a bass drum .. or tune it
 
this will not result in perfection.
but take all the padding out of the drum. then tune it up until it has a tone or ring.
like a bong, kinda. then tune it back down a little and put some of your padding back in it. if it needs more padding then try more, but it should be a little live.

it's really hard to explain how to tune something over the internet, esp a drum which is a pain in the but any way you cut it.
try and keep the same amount of tension across all of the lugs.

hopefully someone has a more clear explanation.
 
on that clip, did you use the same channel of your preamp for both mics without changing any of the settings? there is a massive difference in volume between the two. that 57 sounds much louder. if its through the same channel with the same settings it shoulnt be that much louder. im starting to think it might be the mic. no one else finds that difference in volume ridiculous?

yup same exact every thing!
 
recorded the d112 unplugged it and put the 57 in the same spot

The first one is a LOT louder. He said the d112 was first.
 
Yeah, Pinstripes aren't that ideal to a lot of drummers for a kick head. The popular suggestions are usually a Powerstroke 3 (which is what I use), Evans EMAD and the Superkick(ers?) from Aquarian. I usually keep my kick pretty loose. Just a quick suggestion.

i used to have a powerstroke III but i put a hole in it
 
oh, my goof. i thought the d112 was second. in that case it sounds alright to me. certainly not broken and able to work with.
 
Hey people.... has anyone got a photo of how they would place the D112 inside the bass drum... Ive never even thought of having it angled before.. I realise this might seem like a really silly thing to ask... but I need to see it so that im sure im doing it the same. see how it sounds on my bass drum and that. :)

Do you use the Kevlar patches? I work with a BRUTAL drummer, and I don't believe he puts holes in his BD heads too often.....
