I've used mine on bass cabs with rather decent results...I still much prefer a di recording for bass however. Sorry to hear your mic isn't working...they really are nice mics.

Good luck
i guess i learned my lesson though

"no used mics off of ebay!!!"

maybe i should test the used SM 57 off of ebay that came in the mail the day before

the best part is that mics are pretty much unfixable

if it sounds like shit ..... thats it thats the end theres nothin ya can do

is there?

This is a D112 about 2 inches from the head. Half way between the beater and the rim. The drum is a 22 inch Tama rockstar with Evans EMAD heads. There is no EQ, compression, or anything else.

Audix mics are supposed to have a lifetime warranty. I do not know if its tranferable, but check it out!!! We had a broken om2 and they fixed it right away.

Hey - I bought a d112 on line, and when I got it, it sounded HORRIBLE! It was just a click sound. Anyway, Harvey said the capsule may be "stuck" - I stuck it it the bass drum and beat the living crap out of the bass drum, and it broke loose - sounded fine ever since - I will try and post a clip if I can find it, I was recording when it broke loose........

man...I have a Beta 52 and it really sounded terrible when I placed it close to the head as all these folks have suggested. I tried 2 inches, 3 inches, 4 inches away from the head in the center of the beater....sounded like ass...very muffled....then someone recommended that i back off some....something about low end waves take longer to develope than high end. So I did it....i backed up probably 12 inches from the beater and the differance was UNBELIEVABLE!!! Sounds like a totally different mic now. Its worth a try if you havnt already...

Good luck
Jeremy

The Beta 52 sounds best when stuck just into the hole on the front head, a D112 is different.

have you tried it on anything besides kick?
just as an experiment mind you, put it on a git cab, or talk into it.

to see if it sounds like crap on anything else
make sure the problem is with the mic.
