Inside the drum, about 4" back from where the beater contacts the head, coming in from the right, pointing kinda at the floor tom.

I think it sounds better coming in from the left.........................

(Sorry, I'm a lefty and I'm tired of being held back by "the establishment")

I guess I'm a follower then... i'm a lefty but I naturally place the mic on the right, too, as Harvey suggested...
there goes my image, I guess. :(

Ned Flanders sells left-handed D112s at the Leftorium. :)

Seriously, Nick; if it's true that "no matter where you're putting it", and you've actually tried a few widely varying locations (inside the drum, outside the drum, alingned with the beater, along the edge and away from the beater, etc.), and yet you're always getting a "pop" that just shouldn't be there, I'd have to wonder if there's a problem with the microphone itself.

Uh, I'm left handed too. The reason I say come in from the right is that you can reduce some of the snare bleed in the kick mic, by pointing it more towards the floor tom, coming in from the right.

If you reverse your drum set and play left handed, the hole in the kick should be on the left and you still aim towards the floor tom, which should also be on your left.

Take a few hours and place it everywhere and record each place and label them then come back and listen to them all and what sounds best use it.

Theirs too many variables to know know perfect place for the mic every time and place.

With the D112, there aren't a whole bunch of other places to try. Either inside the drum to pick up the click, or at the hole to pick up the boom. My suggestion is based on an added bonus of reducing snare bleed into the kick mic by angling the mic.

Our variables are reduced by using one of three of our drum sets for 95% of the drummers who record here and they usually prefer our sets to theirs.

what kinda sound are you guys getting cause im not gettin anything besides a pop

Try pointing up towards the shell instead of towards the beater... It worked for me but realize everything is gonna sound differant.

By the way.. I'm also left handed.

Sorry dude but it sounds like your mic is toast. I've had a D112 go bad on me and that's the sound it made.

I'm left handed also. Maybe we should start a club or something. :D

can some one be so kind to put up a solo-ed track of the d112

so i can see if mine sounds anything like it

i just cant let go of this thing its too much money when your 16

Inside the drum, bout 4" from the head coming in from the right as you're facing the front of the drum, just below the beater about 2 inches pointing towards the floor tom something like 45 degrees to the beater. If I need more thwack, I'll raise it up, for more boom, I'll back the whole thing off...for even more shell sound, I'll add a mic on the outside.

Pretty much what Harvey said...that's where I go my edjumucation. :D

thank you all for the great postioning ideas .... but man this mic is fucked up

nothing but a god damn click/pop noise thats all i can get

i wonder how this piece of shit sounds on a bass cab

I've used mine on bass cabs with rather decent results...I still much prefer a di recording for bass however. Sorry to hear your mic isn't working...they really are nice mics.

Good luck
