Where to get ICs and what kind?

I've got some funky ics that I need to replace in my TAC Scorpion board. I'm wondering if there are ones that are better than others, How I can tell which ones I need and where to get them. Here is a pic:

Are you talking about the TL072CP there on the left?

Define "funky"...

Mouser and Digikey are both popular places for purchasing such components.

There are lots of options, but the Burr Brown designed OPA2134 is a popular drop-in replacement for the TL072, and relatively affordable. you can get better, but the 2134 is good bang for the buck and is quieter, cleaner and quicker than the TL072 for sure.

But what's the reason for the swap?
 
Yes, its the one on th left. This channel is dead and some others are a little noisy So I figured I'd replace the things that I could.
 
Are you confident in the source of the noise or the lack of function (on the one that is dead)?
 
The 2134 is a popular replacement for the 072. Burr Brown designed top notch op amps.

BTW...Burr Brown is owned by TI these days, but they still make the 2134 to BB specs.
 
those tac boards were pretty good at the time... but it sounds to me as if you have a trounbleshooting problem... what's the thing not doing or where's the noise at... whats it's age... it more likely that caps need to be replaced...chips dont get noisey for the most part... the usually work or they dont... they dont kinda blow in otherwords...
 
TL072 yech

THere are many disadvanteges with the TL072 not the least being its distortion and noise level when driven hard. The OPA2134 is often a good suggestion... If you want to try some LME49860 I have them and would give a AO discount. They are more expensive than the OPA2134 and are most likely overkill for a TL072 replacement. Singles price from digikey is $5, small quantities to AO folks is $4.

Now the real question is how many chips do you need? TI's samples program is good and they will ship you 5 OPA2134 for free if you ask right.

The desk is from 1985. My trouble shooting is limited to stuff I can do.....like replace a socketed ic. The channel is one of the busses (s3000). In solo I hear a signal but it doesn't show up as output on my deck. There is also no sound in stereo (out of solo) Also, I had heard that these ics weren't the best (thanks to Ethan for confirming). As those who know me have found out.....I'm am NOT a techie. There are three ics for each buss channel and 16 busses so thats ummmm. A lot. :D I'm pretty sure that there are at least two on all of the 24 channel strips.
 
Bet there are a lot more than 2 on each strip...and not just TL072's...:(

There are (IIRC) 200 IC's on the Tascam M-520...only about 65 of them are TL072's though...the rest are 4556's and 2041's (higher output IC's with inversely proportional noise and doistortion specs...:rolleyes:)
