Where is the "Digital Performer" forum?

I've (mostly) completed a nice home studio DAW that seems to be the most integrated when I use an old version of MOTU's Digital Performer.

I signed up with the MOTU forum but quickly discovered that the people inhabiting that forum were extremely hostile. It turns out that my copy of DP couldn't be registered so the people on the forum called me a pirate.

I left them in the dust. I paid good money for the software.

My reception here has been much more encouraging. But looking around I can't find a forum for DP.

Why?

Actually quite a good question that's crossed my mind in the past. i've only use an older version of DP every now and them on my mates machine and actually quite like it. Saying that, apart from him, and yourself, i don't know anybody else who uses it. i'm guessing there just isn't the demand on here for people asking DP related questions :(
 
Wondering the same question.


What version of DP did you buy? I think only 7 and 8 are the ones that are still being sold new. If you bought an older version, the software might have been used and the code might have been used.
 
There has never been much traffic for Digital Performer here so it doesn't warrant its own forum. If that changes, we'll listen to suggestions. But for now, it doesn't make sense to add one.

I think we might possibly see slightly more discussion about DP. Not enough for its own forum, but certainly more. The reason I say so is because MOTU finally cross platformed with DP 8.

Although, I should probably take that statement back, as there is no "Light Edition" or "Essential" edition of DP. I wish they would make one. :(
 
Funny you say that, I had to look up DP when I saw this thread, because I hadn't seen it discussed in quite a while. I was surprised to see a Windows version. So maybe there will be more discussion on it. Look forward to it.
 
Thanks for the replies. bought v2.5 because I have a HUGE amount of money spent on software that requires Mac OS 9. Calling it an "investment" is wrong since one generally expects investments to appreciate rather than the opposite.

Still, I don't have the reources to buy everything all over again. So I have "classic" equipment that is still very functional.

My DP requirements are minimal although the software itself is convoluted. If I hadn't found a copy of the User Guide I'd have tossed it in the trash by now.

Man.... that is incredibly old! Okay, some things:

Because it is old, the registration number might have been used. Since you bought the software, I would deem it fair to download a serial off the internet, though other members might disagree. Although, I think you might have a tough time finding registration for DP 2.5
 
I don't need a SN. I made sure the software was "complete" when I bought it. And being "old" doesn't make it bad. In fact I've found that sometimes the older stuff is way simpler to use since it hasn't been bloated with "feature creep".

I called DP convoluted because it is far from intuitive. Setting it up and integrating it with my equipment took weeks.

Making a recording of a vinyl LP is a 5-step process. But the simpler products couldn't deal with the Tascam FW-1884 Control Surface I ultimately ended up using.

Hey, I never said old was bad!

Can v2.5 record audio? Or was that version the days when they were MIDI only?
 
And I also mentioned registration number, not the serial number.

I meant that I got everything that was shipped with the original package. I quoted the word COMPLETE because it seems like there is ALWAYS soething else I need to buy to make a product fully functional.

In answer to a previous question: v2.5 DEFINITELY records whatever I can throw at it. The Tascam FW-1884 handles 8 channels of analog sources and full MIDI as well. And DP has full knowledge of the device.

Gotcha. At first it sounded like you bought a cracked copy. Why aren't you able to register it? Too old a copy? Do you have it working now?

Cool that you can record audio.

Now, there is quite a difference between serial and registration number.

A serial number is a unique code assigned to identify a product very specifically (a single unit).

A registration number is what is needed to activate your software. Now, I have no idea if DP 2.4 requires a registration number though.
 
I was unable to register it because the person I bought it from was not authorized to sell his older version. According to MOTU they require the original licensee to sell me ALL copies they have not just one.

Since v2.5 has long ago been "discontinued", "unsupported", "abandoned" by MOTU, I found this license policy to be absurd.

Regardless, that is why I can't register it. It still works with just the serial number however so the only thing I lack is a friendly MOTU forum crowd.

OH! I thought you said you were having trouble registering it. So you just wanted a friendly crowd huh? :D

While HR doesn't take too kindly to piraters, I find ourselves to be quite understanding. Welcome here.

Well now, that DOES sound like pirating, just not on your part. I hunt down software pirates on this site. (And even though Pirate is in my name, it's about sailing boats and drinking rum ;) )

For the record, there are some cheap and/or free DAW's out there that work quite well. Reaper is one you should check out. It works on the honor system; you try it out and if you like it, you pay for it. The demo is fully functional and does not expire. Plus, it's updated all the time and the user community is quite nice.
