Hey all. I just got around to really trying to record somthing with my Presonus Firepod. I just tracked this short test song with a shure sm7 on vocals and an AT2020 on my acoustic. I recorded straight to cubase with no effects, and zero processing in cubase. What I would like is some feedback on my dry tracks. What would you do regarding compression EQ, ect? All comments are welcome. Thanks

Is that an original tune? If so - VERY nice.

Personally I like the "dry" tracks.
I think the SM7 really compliments your vocal style.
I assume you tracked it live?
If you have another mic to work with I would throw another one on the acoustic ( a little closer to the guitar) and maybe pan the two sounds a little left and right.
Other than that I wouldn't mess with it too much.

Sounds good.

Sounds like the vox track could use a deEsser and a little light (like a 2:1) compression.

The guitar needs some "boom" (100hz to 60hz) rolled out of it.

And a little top end sparkile (8k to 16k) wouldnt hurt either to brighten it up a bit.

Yeah that is a little segment of an original tune...tracked live. Ive got another condensor that I am going to try micing the guitar out with, then maybe a stereo of the two.
xfinsterx- thanks for your suggestions on the eq, that martin is such loud, bassy guitar, I figured I needed to roll off the lows..

Ill try to get a remix up later

Keep the comments comming

Acoustic guitars sound boomy and dull. Needs some compression big time, meatier midrange, and some sparkle. I'd also recommend doubling it with another take to build up a stereo soundbed.

A little proximity effect on the vocals... sounds like you leaned into it a few times.

Not much else to say because there isn't much to this clip right now.
